James Clark Classic Tournament

Dates: November 30th- December 2nd

Teams: Chabot (0-5), Napa (1-4), Merced (1-6), (10) Las Positas (4-3), Siskiyous (0-6), Cosumnes River (2-3), (9) Feather River (5-1), (14) Sacramento (4-2)

Matchups: The James Clark Classic hosted by Cosumnes River will have eight Northern California teams and three ranked teams participate at the three day event. Feather River, Sacramento and Las Positas will come into the event as the three ranked teams at the event. In first round action Chabot (0-5) will face off against Napa (1-4) in the first game of the tournament. Chabot has struggled this season as the Gladiators are winless through five games this season and have struggled to score the basketball. Jorden Gilmete leads the Gladiators in scoring and is the only player to be averaging in double figures as the freshman is averaging 11.4 points per game. Elliot Harris (8.0 points), and Isaiah Ali (8.2 points) will both look to contribute as Chabot will look to advance to the semi finals with a win over Napa. Meanwhile, Napa comes into the tournament on a two game losing streak and the Storm have struggled early this season winning one out of five. Sasha French has been solid for the Storm as the freshman big man is averaging 11.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Joe Fons (8.0 points), DeAundre Twilly (8.4 points) have also contributed this season for Napa. The Storm will look to pick up the win against a winless Chabot team in first round action.

In the second game of the day, Merced (1-6) will take on 10th ranked Las Positas (4-3). The Blue Devils come into the tournament on a five game losing skid and will look to pick up a win against the 10th ranked Hawks. Merced has struggled early,  but one bright spot has been Kesean Warren as the freshman has averaged 17.3 points and 4.7 rebounds through seven games. He is the only Blue Devil averaging in double figures this season. Mike Harris (9.9 points), Ricky Heidelbach (9.7 points) and Chris Roberson (9.1 points) have also contributed this season for Merced who will look to advance and upset the 10th ranked Hawks in first round action. On the other side of the ball, 10th ranked Las Positas will look to get back on track as the Hawks have lost two straight and three of their last four games. Sophomore big man Anand Hundal has been solid this season for the Hawks as the big is averaging 16.0 points and 11.0 rebounds this season and has posted five double doubles in seven games. Sophomore Nick Evans is averaging 15.1 points this season and is the only other Hawk averaging in double figures this season. Alvon Marshall (8.6 points), John Ketchel (8.6 points) and J.T. Branch (8.0 points) have played well for the Hawks this season.

In the third match up of the three day event, Siskiyous (0-6) will take on tournament host Cosumnes River (2-3) in first round action. Siskiyous has started the season off losing their first six games of the season and will look to pick up their first win against Cosumnes River. Siskiyous has given up 90 points three times this season and the Eagles are averaging 62 points per game. Tyvon Gaitors is leading the team in scoring averaging 12.8 points per contest this season. Dwight Sargent is second in the team in scoring as the sophomore is averaging 12.0 points and 9.3 rebounds this season. Deontrey Fuller (10.8 points) and Dwayne McClendon (10.2 points) are both averaging in double figures this season for the Eagles. As for the Hawks, after starting the season with two straight losses, Cosumnes River has won two of their last three games and will come into the game looking to pick up consecutive games for the first time this season. James Gill has been solid this season for the Hawks as the freshman is averaging 16.2 points and 14.0 rebounds per contest this season. Jordan Roberson (9.8 points), DeRajaee Austin (9.8 points) and Drew Buggs (8.4 points) have also played well for Cosumnes River this season. The winner of this match up will face off against the winner of Napa and Chabot in the semi finals on Friday.

In the final game of first round action on day one, 9th ranked Feather River (5-1) will face off against 14th ranked Sacramento (4-2). 9th ranked Feather River comes into the tournament winning five of their first six to start the season. The Golden Eagles lone loss came against West Valley on November 19th and it will be the second time that the Golden Eagles will face off against a ranked team. Sophomore Gerard Andrus is leading the Golden Eagles in scoring this season as the wing is averaging 22.0 points and 5.8 rebounds this season. Jamel White is averaging 17.2 points and 4.4 assists this season for the Golden Eagles. Calvin Fletcher (11.2 points) and Tyler Jefferson (8.2 points) have played well for Feather River this season through six games. 14th ranked Sacramento comes into the match up on a three game winning streak as the Panthers look to pick up a win against Feather River. Three players are averaging in double figures for the Panthers this season. Sharp shooting Gabe Serna leads the Panthers is scoring averaging 17.3 points and the sophomore is averaging 4.2 assists per contest for Sacramento. Ryan Reed is second in the team in scoring as the freshman is averaging 16.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per contest. Reeshahr Crawford (13.0 points), Jhalen Lumpkins (9.8 points) and Raphael Durr (9.7 points and 5.0 assists) have all been solid for Sacramento this season. This will be a solid first round match up and we could see the champion coming from this game. The winner of this first round match up will face the Merced and Las Positas winner.
