West Los Angeles Wild West Shootout

Teams: (14) West Los Angeles (5-3), Long Beach (5-3), Glendale (2-3), Compton (1-3), Barstow (2-6), Los Angeles Pierce (1-4), Santa Ana (3-2), Los Angeles Valley (1-5).
Matchups: The West Los Angeles Wild West Shootout will start on Thursday and last for three days as eight Southern California teams will take part at the tournament. In first round action, Long Beach (5-3) will face off against Glendale (2-3). The Vikings are on a two game winning streak and have three players averaging in double figures this season. William English leads Long Beach in scoring as the sophomore is averaging 17.0 points and 5.8 rebounds this season. Jeremiah Sadler (16.7 points and 3.3 rebounds), and Matthew Wooten (12.0 points and 5.3 rebounds) have been solid this season for Long Beach. Meanwhile, Glendale will look to end their two game losing streak as the Vaqueros are 2-3 this season. Four players are averaging in double figures and Serigne Athj leads the team in scoring as the sophomore is averaging 14.8 points per contest. Dominic Gully averages 13.8 points per contest and Chris Daniels is another option as the sophomore is averaging 13.6 points per game for the Vaqueros. Jordan Matthews is off to a solid start as the sophomore is averaging 13.0 points and 7.8 rebounds this season.
In the second game of the tournament, Los Angeles Pierce (1-4) will look to end their three game losing streak against Santa Ana (3-2). Pierce has one victory this season and it came against Glendale on Novmber 14th. The Brahmas are led by sophomore guard Jordan Newt who is averaging 15.6 points per game this season. Randle Lacey (15.2 points and 5.0 rebounds) and Chance Cole (10.7 points and 6.3 rebounds) will look to contribute and pick up a first round win over Santa Ana. The Dons are coming off a win in their last meeting against Rio Hondo 89-81 on November 15th and Santa Ana has won three of five to start the season. Cameron High has been spectacular this season as the sophomore is averaging 24.4 points per contest this season and shooting 44% from downtown to start the season. High scored a game high of 30 points earlier this season against El Camino. Keandre Brossuard (15.6 points and 5.2 rebounds), D’Caran Anderson (14.2 points) and Xavier Gunter (14.0 points and 16.4 rebounds) are all averaging in double figures. Gunter had 29 rebounds in a game earlier this season against El Camino and has been in double digits in rebounds in all five games this season.
In game three of the Wild West Shootout, tournament host and 14th ranked West Los Angeles (5-3) will take on Los Angeles Valley (1-5). The Wildcats have won four of thier last five and will come into the first round as the favorites over Los Angeles Valley. Sophomore sharp shooter Corey Jackson leads the Wildcats in scoring as the guard is averaging 14.6 points per game and Jackson is shooting 42% from behind the three point line. Jackson had 30 points against Antelope Valley at the San Bernardino Tournament. Traonte Jones is the other Wildcat in double figures as the sophomore is averaging 12.4 points and 3.3 assists this season. West Los Angeles has depth as Eddie Hughes (8.2 points) Gabriel Hubbard (8.3) and ex factor Prince Obeni (8.6 points and 6.9 rebounds) have been solid for the Wildcats this season. Los Angeles Valley on the other hand, will look to end their two game losing streak going into this matchup against West Los Angeles. The Monarchs lone win this season came against Mt. San Antonio on November 16th. Dejwan Walker has been solid this season as the guard is averaging 19.0 points and 4.8 rebounds this season. Sophomore Christian Morataya is averaging in double figures as the guard is averaging 17.8 points and 3.8 assists this season for the Monarchs. Christian Hodge is averaging 13.8 points this season and has had a solid start to the young season.
In the last game of the first round, Compton (1-3) will face off against Barstow (2-6). The Tartars have struggled this season losing three of their first four and will look to pick up a first round win against Barstow. Jaylen Million (14.3 points) leads Compton in scoring and has been solid this season. L’kielynn Taylor (13.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 5.3 assists) is off to a solid all around season for Compton. Armon Cook averages 12.8 points this season and will look to contribute in first round action against Barstow. Kendall Smith (8.7 points) and Chris Townsell (8.3 points) will look to help out at the scoring end for the Tartars. As for Barstow, the Vikings are off to a slow start losing six of thier first eight games and they will look to advance against Compton. Five players are averaging in double figures led by Will Pierce as the sophomore is averaging 17.1 points per contest. Denzel Lipson (12.4 points and 3.4 assists), Ron Neezy (12.3 points), Paul Vilela (11.9 points and 3.8 assists) and big man Borja Soriano March (11.0 points and 8.8 rebounds) are all averaging in double figures for the Vikings who will look to pick up the win in first round action.
