Thursday Tournament Action

Day three of the Modesto Tournament will get an early wake up call as action begins at 8am. The consolation bracket will get an early start and by press time a game could be finished. The Glendale Tournament will finish off first round action after having two first round games yesterday. The Saddleback Tournament will begin today and Santa Rosa will host a tournament beginning today. Below is a preview of what to come in todays California Junior College basketball around the state.

Day 3 Modesto Tournament – Modesto, CA

By the time readers get to this story one game will be finished. Sacramento and Allan Hancock tip off a busy day of hoops at the sixteen team Modesto Tournament. Sacramento (4-5) which lost to Chabot in the first round will look to get a win against Allan Hancock. Allan Hancock (5-6) lost in the first round to Fresno yesterday. The game tipped off at 8am earlier this morning.

At 10am Columbia will face Yuba. Both teams are coming off tough first round defeats. In the 12pm game 8th ranked Ohlone will face a solid Cuesta team coming off a defeat against Lassen. The consolation bracket will finish at the 6pm game when Modesto will face Mendocino.

In the winners bracket today at Modesto, action will begin at 2pm when Lassen will face Diablo Valley. Lassen is coming off of a victory over Cuesta and Diablo Valley beat Ohlone in first round action. At 4pm, Fresno City will take on Chabot in what could be a great quarter final match up. At 8pm, Napa Valley will face De Anza. Napa beat Modesto in their first round match up by 10 points and De Anza beat Mendocino. In the final game of the day, 13th ranked Cosumnes River will face Foothill to conclude action at the 77th Annaual Modesto Junior College Basketball Tournament.

Glendale Tournament – Glendale, CA

Day Two of the Glendale Tournament will feature two games which will conclude first round action. The action will begin at 5pm, when Rio Hondo will face Orange Coast. Rio Hondo (7-5) has lost three of their last four and will look to get back on track against a Orange Coast (0-8) team looking to pick up their first win of the season. In the second game at 7pm, Los Angeles Valley will meet Moorpark. Los Angeles Valley is coming off a 1-2 weekend at the Santa Barbara Tournament. Meanwhile, Moorpark (7-6) had the weekend off and will look to get back on track as the Raiders have lost 4 of their last 5 games, but all 4 of the losses have come against Signal The Light Basketball ranked teams.

Saddleback Tournament – Mission Viejo, CA

The Saddleback Tournament begins today with action starting at 1pm. The first game will feature two solid teams as Long Beach (6-3) will face San Diego. The Vikings have won 5 of their last 6 games and will face the 12th ranked Knights. San Diego (7-5) will look to end their two game losing streak. At 3pm, 10th ranked Chaffey (11-5) will go up against 15th ranked Irvine Valley (7-5). Chaffey is coming off a 82-58 loss to Riverside at the Riverside Tournament last week. Irvine Valley will look to extend its 2 game winning streak in first round action today. In other action at 5pm, Los Angeles Trade Tech (2-7) will look to end its four game losing streak against Fullerton (2-9). Fullerton will look to end its two game losing streak after beating Barstow last week at the Riverside Tournament. In the final game of first round action 2nd ranked Saddleback (13-1) will host Mira Costa (5-4) at 7pm. Mira Costa is currently on a two game winning streak and will look to upset the Gauchos on their home court.

Santa Rosa Tournament – Santa Rosa, CA

11th ranked American River will play College of the Redwoods at 1pm to begin play at the Santa Rosa Tournament. The Beavers will look to win the first round match up as they have won 3 of their last 4 games. Redwoods (5-6) have lost two games in a row. At 4pm, Canyons (4-4) will face 4th ranked Marin (7-1). Marin is off to a hot start and have won five straight games. Los Medanos will face Shasta at 6pm. Los Medanos (2-6) will look to end a two game skid against Shasta (2-8). Shasta has also lost two games in a row last weekend at the Foothill Tournament. In the last game of the evening tournament host Santa Rosa will host 10th ranked Feather River. Santa Rosa (4-6) has lost four of their last five games and will look to beat a solid Feather River (10-4) team which has won three of their last four.

In other action today…

Cypress (4-7) will travel and play 7th ranked Los Angeles Harbor (6-2). The Seahwaks have won four of their last five games and lost in the championship of the Antelope Valley game last week.

Undefeated 4th ranked West Los Angeles (8-0) will go on the road and face College of the Desert tonight. Desert (4-6) has lost six of their last 7 games after starting the season 3-0.
