Santa Ana upends 2nd ranked Chaffey

In tournament action on Thursday, unranked Santa Ana outscored 2nd ranked Chaffey by 10 points in the second half as the Dons upset the Panthers in the first round at the Mt. San Jacinto Tournament. Cerro Coso picked up their first victory of the season as the Coyotes beat the California Lutheran JV team.

Mt. San Jacinto Tournament

In the first round of the Mt. San Jacinto Tournament, QV Johnson went off for 32 points and 6 rebounds, and Jason Walker added 15 points and 4 rebounds as Santa Ana (2-6) upset 2nd ranked Chaffey 74-70. Kameron Curl had 18 points and Robert White added 13 points and 10 rebounds in the loss for Chaffey (6-2). In other action in the first round, Brandon Thomas had 21 points and Andy Cleaves added 19 points and 4 rebounds as 11th ranked Riverside (7-2) cruised past San Diego Mesa 112-61. Armstrong Ojunkwu had 22 points and 10 rebounds in the loss for San Diego Mesa (0-6). Tournament host and 9th ranked Mt. San Jacinto (7-3) won their fifth game in a row with a 94-69 victory over Cuesta (4-5). Curtis Weathers had 20 points and Carl Brown added 17 points and 5 rebounds in the win for the Eagles. Alex Ouandie had 24 points and 8 rebounds and Andres Aguado added 16 points and 5 rebounds in the loss for the Cougars. In other action Jason Horosny had 32 points and 8 rebounds, and Michael Kalu added 21 points and 10 rebounds as Canyons (4-5) upended the Bethesda JV 93-80. In today’s action in the semi finals, Canyons will face Riverside and Santa Ana will battle Mt. San Jacinto in the other semi final. In the consolation bracket, San Diego Mesa will face Bethesda JV and in the other consolation game, Chaffey will battle Cuesta in a right to participate in the consolation championship.

West Los Angeles Tournament

In first round action at the West Los Angeles Tournament, Dajion Henderson had 20 points and 4 rebounds and Jayvon Brown added 19 points as 6th ranked Compton (5-1) crushed Glendale 92-66 to advance to the semi finals of the West Los Angeles Tournament. Dom Gully had 15 points and Serigne Athj added 11 points for Glendale (3-3) in the loss. In other first round action, Jordan Newt had 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assist and Dakota Abbott added 14 points as Los Angeles Pierce (1-2) picked up their first win of the season with a 88-80 win over Pasadena (1-4). Mckay Anderson had 20 points and 9 rebounds, and Dejon Williams added 14 points in the loss for the Lancers. Dejwan Walker had 23 points and Jhordanno Henriquez added 15 points and 6 rebounds as Los Angeles Valley (2-3) edged Long Beach 67-65 to move into the semi finals. Breamon Richard had 22 points and Tyler Dees added 15 points and 9 rebounds in the loss for Long Beach (1-6) which has now lost three straight games. Tournament host West Los Angeles (5-4) moved over .500 with a 84-54 win over Santa Barbara (2-5) in first round action. Malik Smith had 20 points and 5 rebounds, and Criag Owens added 19 points and 7 rebounds in the win for West Los Angeles. Robert Hutchins had 19 points and 5 rebounds and Ben Clay added 10 points and 6 rebounds in the loss for Santa Barbara. In todays action, West Los Angeles will face Los Angeles Valley in one semi final followed by Compton and Los Angeles Pierce in the second semi final. On the consolation side of things, Santa Barbara will battle Long Beach and Pasadena will take on Glendale on day two of the West Los Angeles Tournament.

Monterey Tournament

In first round action at the Monterey Tournament on Thursday, Mohammed Abdulrasul had 19 points and Josh Verner added 14 points as West Valley (2-5) slipped past South Pudget Sound 74-65 to advance to the semi finals later on today. In other action Jaaron Stallworth had 30 points as top ranked Yuba (6-1) won their sixth game in a row with a 82-75 win over Irvine Valley (4-3). Lance Coleman had 23 points and Daniel Hernandez added 12 points in the loss for the Lasers. In other action, Reedley (2-2) won their second straight game with a 66-64 win over tournament host Monterey (2-3). Rakim Murphy had 18 points and Jeron Bowers added 14 points in the win for the Tigers. John Rich ha 15 points and 9 rebounds and Marcus Wallace added 13 points and 4 rebounds in the loss for Monterey. In the night cap of the tournament, William Green had 25 points and Ant Navarrete added 19 points as 14th ranked Canada (6-3) won their fifth straight game with a 87-66 win over unranked Solano (2-4). R.J. Louis and Chance Pippin each had 11 points in the loss for Solano.

In todays action in the semi finals, West Valley will battle top ranked Yuba and 14th ranked Canada will battle Reedley to advance to the championship game on Saturday. In the consolation bracket, South Pudget Sound will take on Irvine Valley and Solano will take on tournament host Monterey later on today.

Cosumnes River Tournament

In Sacramento, at the Consumnes River Tournament Anand Hundal had 10 points and three other Hawks scored 9 points as 3rd ranked Las Positas (8-1) won their second straight game with a 75-53 win over Napa (0-5). James Ned had 15 points and Jabriel Allen added 12 points in the loss for the Storm. In other action, Anthony Smith had 28 points and Chris McDonald added 23 points as 7th ranked Feather River (6-1) won their fifth straight game crushing Chabot 101-62. Demarre Walker had 27 points in the loss for Chabot (2-5). In other action tournament host Cosumnes River (4-3) picked up a 90-54 win over Siskiyous to advance to the semi finals. Zach Webster had 13 points in the loss for Siskiyous (2-7). In the night cap Sacramento (5-2) picked up a 90-76 victory over Merced (4-3) to advance to the semi finals later on today.

In today’s action in Sacramento, 7th ranked Feather River will take on Sacramento in the first semi final at 5pm and in 3rd ranked Las Positas will take on tournament host Cosumnes River for a place in the finals on Saturday. On the consolation side of the bracket, Chabot will battle Merced and Siskiyous will take on Napa all in action later today with action beginning at 1pm.

Pittsburg, CA – American River 87 Los Medanos 66

Richard Reed had 22 points and Jericho Avery added 22 points and 14 rebounds as American River (6-2) crushed Los Medanos 87-66 on the road. It was the fifth straight loss for Los Medanos (1-5).

Thousand Oaks, CA – Cerro Coso 89 California Lutheran JV 83

Mike Polman had 16 points and Sidney Lloyd added 14 points as Cerro Coso (1-5) ended their five game losing streak with a 89-83 victory over the California Lutheran JV team on Thursday evening.
