Results for Friday Action

Another Friday has come and gone in California Junior college basketball. In the Big 8 Conference, San Joaquin Delta and Santa Rosa moved into a tie for first place as both teams came up with victories on Friday night. Five teams are now tied for second place at a even 2-2 in the conference. In the Coast South Conference, San Jose and West Valley are in a tie for first place as both teams are now 3-0 in conference heading into next week. Chabot will go into next week with a 1/2 game lead over three other Coast North teams. In the Pacific Coast South, San Diego and Southwestern will go into next week tied at the top of the standings at 3-0 after both teams picked up wins on Friday night. In Pacific Coast North action Palomar moved into a tie with Mira Costa after picking up a victory over Grossmont. Long Beach stayed on top of the South Coast South standings with a win on Friday night and on the opposite side of the conference, Mt. San Antonio picked up a road victory over Pasadena to stay on top of the South Coast North Conference standings.

COAST NORTH CONFERENCE

2nd ranked Ohlone (15-5, 2-1) cruised to a 68-38 over Foothill (9-11, 2-2) early Friday evening. Ryo Tawatari had 17 points and Javier De La Blanca added 14 points and 12 rebounds in the win for Ohlone. Asante Monadjemi had 9 points for Foothill in the loss. In other action 4th ranked Canada (16-2, 2-1) knocked off 14th ranked Las Positas 105-77. Crisshawn Clark had 23 points, and Rohndell Goodwin added 21 points in the win. Marti Fonolla had 16 points in the loss for Las Positas (11-8, 0-3). In other action Chabot (12-9, 3-1) moved into sole possession of first place with a 69-68 home victory against 15th ranked Skyline (13-5, 1-3).

BIG 8 CONFERENCE

Troy Anderson had 24 points and 17 rebounds and 7 blocks and Dwayne Lee added 10 points as 10th ranked San Joaquin Delta (13-4, 3-1) picked up a hard fought 55-33 defensive battle on Friday night over Diablo Valley (10-9, 2-2). Olajuwon Garner had 10 points in the loss for Diablo Valley. In other action, Joe Hamilton scored 14 points as Modesto (5-11, 2-2) knocked off 9th ranked American River 65-59. It was the second straight loss for American River (10-5, 2-2). Four Santa Rosa (10-8, 3-1) players scored in double figures as the Bearcubs moved into a tie for first place after beating Sacramento 76-72. Brandon Rowden had 24 points in the loss for Sacramento (6-11, 0-4). 13th ranked Cosumnes River (12-7, 2-2) upended 12th ranked Sierra (9-9, 2-2) in overtime 92-87 to force a five way tie for second place. Mitchell Love had 24 points and 7 assist and David Straughter added 21 points and 10 rebounds in the win for Cosumnes River.

ORANGE EMPIRE CONFERENCE

Top ranked Saddleback (21-1, 4-0) won their 16th straight game on the road with a 83-54 victory against Fullerton (2-17, 0-4). Conor Clifford had 20 points and 6 rebounds and Maurice Jones added 11 points in the win for the Gauchos. Kristopher Nelson had 13 points in the loss for Fullerton. Jimmy Golden had 15 points and Chris Salas added 9 points as Irvine Valley (9-9, 2-1) beat Riverside 65-61. Jelani Mitchell had 22 points in the loss for Riverside (7-12, 2-2). In other action, Cypress (8-10, 1-2) picked up their first conference victory at home beating Santa Ana 58-45. Jeremy Wright had 26 points for Cypress in the victory. De’Jon Fraizer had 10 points in the loss for Santa Ana (9-9, 1-2)

COAST SOUTH CONFERENCE

3rd ranked San Jose (16-3, 3-0) won their sixth game in a row as the Jaguars beat De Anza 67-65. Junior Anderson had 19 points and Maurice Joiner added 13 points and 7 rebounds in the win for San Jose. Isaac Clark had 20 points and Devin Koeplin added 15 points as Monterey (7-9, 1-2) knocked off Cabrillo 65-57. Allen Wilcher had 20 points for Cabrillo (9-9, 1-2) in the loss. In other action West Valley (6-12, 3-0) stayed undefeated in conference play with a 68-62 victory over Hartnell (4-13, 0-3).

SOUTHCOAST SOUTH CONFERENCE

Elijah Gaines had 22 points and Brandon Staton added 21 points as 5th ranked Long Beach (14-4, 3-0) beat Cerritos 91-78. Jeff Gonzalez had 21 points and Jay Merriweather added 20 points for Cerritos (8-11, 2-2) in the loss. In other action Elliot Morris had 17 points and 7 rebounds, and Mike Mayes added 15 points as 10th ranked Los Angeles Harbor (10-6, 2-1) cruised to a 81-57 win over Los Angeles Southwest (7-8, 0-3).

SOUTHCOAST NORTH CONFERENCE

3rd ranked Mt. San Antonio (17-1, 3-0) held off Pasadena 70-67 Friday evening on the road. Blake Hamilton had 17 points and 8 rebounds and Stephaun Branch added 14 points in the win for the Mounties. Johnathan Henderson led Pasadena (7-11, 1-2) with 23 points in the loss. 14th ranked El Camino-Compton Center (12-6, 2-1) knocked off El Camino 72-65. Freshman James Boyd had another big game with 17 points and 21 rebounds and Michael Alexander added 15 points for Compton in the win. Malik Wildermuth had 17 points and 9 rebounds in the loss for El Camino. In other action, East Los Angeles (10-8, 2-2) beat Los Angeles Trade Tech (3-15, 0-3) on the road 86-80.

PACIFIC COAST NORTH CONFERENCE

Jeremy Franklin had 14 points as Palomar (9-8, 3-0) kept pace with first place Mira Costa with a 58-44 home win against Grossmont. Robert Romero had 16 points for Grossmont (7-10, 1-2) in the loss. In the other game of the night, 7th ranked Mt. San Jacinto (13-6, 1-2) picked up their first conference victory with a 80-71 win in overtime against San Diego Miramar (4-13, 0-4). Alan Palesano had 14 points and Roosevelt Adams added 13 points and 11 rebounds in the win for Mt. San Jacinto.

PACIFIC COAST SOUTH CONFERENCE

Kevin Windley had 15 points and Asante Yarbrough added 14 points as 8th ranked Southwestern (12-6, 3-0) knocked off San Diego Mesa (5-12, 1-3) on the road 68-47. In other action, San Diego (12-7, 3-0) went on the road and defeated winless Imperial Valley 73-61. Richard Stamps had 21 points in the loss for Imperial Valley (0-15, 0-3).
