Panthers and Wildcats meet for place in Ventura

Fourth seeded  Chaffey (22-7) will host 12th seeded West Los Angeles (21-8) on Saturday night in a battle of two teams looking to make a trip to Ventura. The Panthers come into the game after picking up a 76-62 victory over 20th seed Los Angeles Valley last weekend. Kehassson Oulai had 23 points and 14 rebounds (7 offensive) and Isaiah McCullough added 21 points for the Panthers in the win. Chaffey has won seven straight games and will play the Wildcats for the first time this season. West Los Angeles comes into the game as the 12th seed and the Wildcats went on the road and picked up a huge win against 5th seeded Cerritos 66-61 last weekend. Derrick Woods had 19 points and 6 rebounds and Terrell Waiters added 14 points in the win for the Wildcats.

Chaffey (22-7): The Panthers come into the game winners of seven straight games and finished 2nd place in the South Coast North Conference. Chaffey picked up the fourth seed in the post season and advanced to the sweet 16 with a win last week against Los Angeles Valley. Four players average in double figures for the Panthers as Kehasson Oulai leads the team in scoring as the freshman is averaging 16.1 points and 10.6 rebounds per contest. Oulai is averaging a double double for the season and has been a standout for the Panthers all season. Anthony Garcia is second in scoring for the Panthers as the sophomore is averaging 12.7 points and 3.1 assists this season. Garcia has shot 44% from downtown and the guard is another scoring option for Chaffey. Jaylen Wiltz (10.6 points) and Isaiah McCullough (10.0 points and 3.3 rebounds) are two other Panthers that will look to provide scoring for Chaffey against West Los Angeles tomorrow night. Chaffey averages 84.2 points per game while the Panthers give up 73.4 points per contest. Chaffey averages 29.2 field goals per game (13th in the state), and the Panthers strive on the offensive glass as Chaffey averages 13.3 offensive rebounds per contest (13th in the state). Chaffey gets to free throw line as the Panthers make 17.3 per night (9th in the state) and attempt 24.5 (10th in the state). At the defensive end, the Panthers turn you over as Chaffey averages 10.5 steals per contest (5th in the state) and Chaffey will look to pick up the home win to advance to the Elite Eight.

West Los Angeles (21-8): The Wildcats come into the game as the number 12 seed in the tournament and winners of the Western State South Conference. West Los Angles won 21 games this season and went on the road and knocked off a tough Cerritos team in the 2nd round. The Wildcats come into the game with a balanced attack at the offensive end as five players average in double figures. Derrick Woods leads the Wildcats in scoring as the freshmen is averaging 14.7 points and 7.9 rebounds per contest. Woods has scored 20 or more points seven times this season and has been solid this season. Dwight Murray is second on the team in scoring as the sophomore is averaging 11.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per contest. Sophomore Terrell Waiters (10.3 points), Mark Carter (10.1 points) and Julian Ross (10.1 points) are all in double figures as well for the Wildcats. West Los Angeles averages 79.7 points per game while the Wildcats give up 77.5 points per contest. One area where the Wildcats strive in is on the offensive glass as they are averaging 15.0 offensive rebounds per game (3rd in the state) and average 42.4 rebound per game which is 4th in the state. West Los Angeles gets to the free throw line a lot as the Wildcats shoot 24.8 per game (7th in the state) but shoot 63% from the line (88th in the state).
