Opening night 2018

Don Gehler Memorial Tournament @ San Diego Miramar


In first round action at the Don Gehler Memorial Tournament, Jamario Harris had 22 points and 5 rebounds and Anthony Routh made three 3 pointers and added 17 points as Palomar (1-0) opened up their season with a 74-62 win over Cuyamaca (0-1). Chris Stanek had 12 points and Moses Smith added 8 points in the loss for the Coyotes.

In the second match up of the day, Blake Seits had 25 points and 7 rebounds, Carsten DenHerder added 21 points and Damien Miller had 15 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists as San Diego Miramar (1-0) edged Rio Hondo 91-85 in opening day action. Jonathan Martinez had 17 points and 5 assists but the guard shot 3 of 18 from the floor and struggled in the first game of the season. Uziel Felix had 16 points and Elijah McElroy added 16 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists in the loss for Rio Hondo (0-1).

In other action in San Diego, Terry Daniels had 17 points and 7 rebounds, and Quincy Brown added 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists as Imperial Valley (1-0) advanced to the semi finals with a 84-77 win over MiraCosta (0-1). Mikhail Land had 23 points and made five three pointers and Devyian Roberson added 17 points and 5 rebounds in the loss for the Spartans.

In the final game of the first day, sophomore Lucas Zemen had 14 points and 9 rebounds and Daisone Hughes added 14 points as 15th ranked Santa Monica (1-0) picked up their first win of the season beating 9th ranked Southwestern 77-67. Jose Serrano had 13 points and 7 rebbounds and Marquavian Stephens added 13 points in the loss for Southwestern (0-1).

Ventura Tournament


In the first game of the tournament, Maurice Tutt made three 3 pointers and had 19 points and Chris Harper added 12 points and 5 rebounds as 11th ranked Riverside (1-0) picked up their first victory of the year with a 71-70 win over Antelope Valley (0-1). Sophomore Julian Payton had 17 points and 4 rebounds and Jalen Riley added 14 points in the loss for the Marauders. Riverside will face Los Angeles Valley tomorrow and Antelope Valley will take on Moorpark in 2nd day action tomorrow.

In the 2nd game of the day, we had an instant classic as Josiah Woods made five three pointers and had 22 points and Ivan Egbunike added 15 points and 11 rebounds as Pasadena (1-0) picked up a 90-87 win in double overtime against Moorpark (0-1). Brandon Russell had 36 points and went 19 of 22 from the line and his teammate Tim Andreolli added 12 points and 8 rebounds in the loss for the Raiders.

In the night cap, Micah Cooper had 25 points and 6 rebounds and made four three pointers and CChrisitan Simonian added 12 points as Los Angeles Valley (1-0) went on the road and picked up a 80-70 win over tournament host Ventura (0-1). Lamont Sanders had 15 points and Dayshone Henry added 11 points in the loss for the Pirates.

College of the Desert Tournament


In opening day action, Derrick Woods had 25 points and 9 rebounds and Dwight Murrary had 17 points and Julian Ross added 12 points and 10 rebounds as 14th ranked West Los Angeles (1-0) knocked off Victor Valley 92-83 to pick up their first win of the season. Eric Figueroa had 24 points and 7 rebounds and Jamain Owens added 22 points in the loss for Victor Valley (0-1).

In the game of the day, Davonte Carrier had 15 points and Arian Azemi added 12 points and 8 rebounds as 8th ranked San Bernardino (1-0) picked up a big win in the early part of the season 81-75 over 13th ranked Copper Mountain (0-1). Anthony Rice had 24 points and D’Shaun Barrett made four three pointers and had 14 points in the loss for the Fighting Cacti.

In the finale of the day, Gunnar Mogolis made four three pointers and had 18 points and Nicholas Pete added 10 points and 8 rebounds as Desert (1-0) picked up their first win of the season with a 58-50 win over Grossmont (0-1). Josh Burton had 11 points and Jamal Johnson added 11 points and 8 rebounds in the loss for the Griffins.

Clash at Canyons


In first day action in Valencia, Eric Ting had 26 points and Andre Barton added 18 points as Glendale (1-0) opened their 2018-2019 campaign with a 88-76 win over Oxnard (0-1). Luis Cervantes had 13 points and Kirvaris Myricks added 13 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists in the loss for the Condors.

In the other first round match up, Levelle Zeigler had 17 points and 4 rebounds and Deshawn Highler added 14 points as top ranked East Los Angles (1-0) opened up their season with a 88-74 win over Canyons (0-1) on the road. Zach Phipps had 17 points and Jude Agbasi added 15 points in the loss for the Cougars. East Los Angeles will face Glendale on Saturday in the title game, while Canyons will face Oxnard in the consolation final on Saturday.

Tony Costello Memorial Tournament


Isaiah Attles had 25 points and 6 rebounds and Evan Thompson added 20 points as Contra Costa (1-0) cruised past Sacramento 102-74 in day one action in Livermore. Greg Minton had 12 points in the loss for Sacramento (0-1).

In other action, Michael Hayes had 22 points and Decaurey Brown added 13 points as 5th ranked Las Positas (1-0) overcame a bad performance from the free throw line and picked up a 79-63 opening night victory over Siskiyous (0-1). Antonio Bush had 16 points in the loss for the Eagles.

In the last game of the evening, 15th ranked Canada (1-0) picked up their first win of the season with a 80-75 win over Butte (0-1).

San Jose Tip-Off Tournament


In the first day of action in San Jose, Tarren-Storey-Way had 24 points and Theo Howard added 23 points as Lassen (1-0) picked up an 88-83 victory over Monterey (0-1). Anthony Dennis had 30 points and 9 rebounds and Quinn Ryan added 15 points and 4 rebounds in the loss for the Lobos.

In other action on opening day, Ibn Zaid had 17 points all in the 2nd half, and Patrick Fisher added 16 points as 3rd ranked Gavilan (1-0) picked up their first win of the season picking up a 74-70 win over Foothill (0-1). Jamar Gaddis had 21 points and Ashonti Hunter added 13 points in the loss for the Owls.

In other action in San Jose, Kyle Brown had 18 points and Jordan McGlory added 12 points and 12 rebounds as Chabot (1-0) picked up a 68-60 win over 11th ranked Cosumnes River (0-1) to open up the season. Paul Ohiri had 19 points and Khari Hutt added 16 points in the loss for the Hawks.

In the finale of the night Merced (1-0) picked up an 89-75 victory over tournament host San Jose (0-1) to end off first day action.

Santa Ana Tip-Off Tournament


In the first day of the Santa Ana Tip-Off Tournament, Jace Bass had 23 points and 9 rebounds and Jamiu Akinbile added 12 points and 7 rebounds as 10th ranked Long Beach (1-0) advanced to the championship game with a 74-71 win over Santa Ana (0-1). Ramon Lopez had 22 points and Chris Bailey added 12 points and 7 rebounds in the loss for the Dons.

In the first round action, Tyler Goodlow had 20 points and made four three pointers and Lucas Holden added 17 points and 9 rebounds as Santiago Canyon (1-0) opened a big halftime lead and held off Chaffey (0-1) 88-79 to move into the championship game against Long Beach tomorrow. Jaylen Wiltz had 22 points and Aaron Johnson added 14 points and 7 rebounds in the loss for the Panthers who will face Santa Ana tomorrow.

San Bruno, CA – Merritt 72 Skyline 68 (OT)

Titan Goss-Davis had 17 points and Sherab Nyima added 15 points as Merritt (1-0) picked up a 72-68 road win over Skyline (0-1) in overtime to open up the season.
