There were some key games early in the conference that took place on a busy Friday night in California Junior College basketball. Ohlone went on the road and beat top ranked Canada 93-82. Ohlone made an early statement and moved within a 1/2 game of conference leader San Francisco who also won on Friday night on the road against Skyline. In other northern California action San Jose got a big win on the road over Cabrillo in Coast South action. In southern California, Mt. San Jacinto suffered a home loss to unranked Palomar. El Camino-Compton Center continues to roll as Compton won their seventh game in a row last night.
COAST NORTH CONFERENCE
As we mentioned above in Coast North Conference action 3rd ranked Ohlone (14-4, 1-0) knocked off top ranked Canada 93-82 on the road. Ryo Tawatari had 24 points and 5 assist, and Marcus Holmquist-Pollock added 19 points in the win for Ohlone. Manny Martin led the way for Canada (15-2, 1-1). Canada struggled from behind the line in the game going 5-28 from the 3 point line in the loss. In other action 8th ranked San Francisco (13-5, 2-0) stayed atop the Coast North standings with a victory over 10th ranked Skyline 81-69. Vincent Golson and Carlos Mancasola each had 15 points in the win for San Francisco. Skyline (12-4, 0-1) has now lost four of their last five games.
ORANGE EMPIRE CONFERENCE
Top ranked Saddleback (19-1, 2-0) picked up a 78-61 road victory over Santa Ana (8-8, 0-1) on Friday night in Orange Empire action. Andrew Bournes had 19 points and Conor Clifford added 17 points and 6 rebounds in the win for the Gauchos. Ramez Michail led Santa Ana with 21 points and 7 rebounds in the loss. In other action, Riverside (7-10, 2-0) knocked off Cypress 7-10, 0-2) on the road 60-58. Jelani Mitchell had 14 points and Taj Adams added 14 points and 10 rebounds in the win for Riverside. Jordan Fleck had 14 points in the loss for Cypress. Brad Buchignani had 18 points and Deion Page added 15 points as Orange Coast (3-11, 1-1) beat Fullerton on the road 86-59. Isaiah Clark had 12 points and 11 rebounds in the loss for Fullerton (2-15, 0-2).
BIG 8 CONFERENCE
In another night of adventure, 12th ranked American River 10-3, 2-0) beat 9th ranked Cosumnes River 78-65. Mitchell Love had 14 points and 6 rebounds in the loss for Cosumnes River (10-7, 0-2). In other action, Antonio Lewis had 29 points and Isaiah Pineiro added 20 points as Sierra (9-7, 2-0) knocked off 14th ranked Diablo Valley (9-8, 1-1) on the road 64-51. 7th ranked San Joaquin Delta (11-4, 1-1)picked up a home victory over Santa Rosa 61-60 on Friday night. Dwayne Lee had 24 points and Treyvon Merriweather added 11 points for Delta in the win. Corey Hammell had 19 points in the loss for Santa Rosa (8-8, 1-1). Modesto (4-10, 1-1) picked up their first conference victory with a 61-60 win over Sacramento (6-9, 0-2). Joe Hamilton had 21 points for Modesto in the win. Brandon Rowden had 12 points for Sacramento in the loss.
PACIFIC COAST NORTH CONFERENCE
In Pacific Coast North action Palomar knocked off 4th ranked Mt. San Jacinto on the road 88-86. Ryan Schaefer had 23 points and James Sampson added 21 points for Palomar (8-8, 2-0) in the win. Sam Williams had 45 points in the loss for Mt. San Jacinto (12-5, 0-1). Palomar (8-8, 2-0) stayed undefeated after their road win last night. Donny Punter had 15 points and Mira Costa (10-6, 2-0) beat Miramar 69-59. Tyrell Jones had 23 points and 6 rebounds in the loss for Miramar (4-11, 0-2).
PACIFIC COAST SOUTH CONFERENCE
11th ranked Southwestern (10-6, 1-0) beat Imperial Valley (0-14, 0-2) at home 91-77 in Pacific Coast South Conference action. Shawn Lathan had 20 points and Richard Grove added 15 points for Southwestern. In other action Cuyamaca (5-10, 1-1) knocked off San Diego Mesa 79-63. Tim Pace had 20 points for Cuyamaca in the win. Shamoree Strawn had 20 points in the loss for San Diego Mesa (5-10, 1-1).
COAST SOUTH CONFERENCE
In the game of the night in the Coast South Conference, Chris Sterling had 30 points and 7 rebounds and Maurice Joiner added 12 points and 7 rebounds as 5th ranked San Jose (14-3, 1-0) beat Cabrillo 92-80. Allen Wilcher had 20 points and Latrell Wilson added 19 points in the loss for Cabrillo (9-8, 1-1). In other action West Valley (4-12, 2-0) went on the road and beat De Anza 62-54. De Anza (6-10, 1-1) will play Gavilan next Wednesday. Gavilan (2-13, 1-1) went on the road and picked up a road victory over Hartnell 78-64. Robbie Skinner had 18 points, and Takoda Bowers added 15 points in the win.
SOUTH COAST NORTH CONFERENCE
Dejon Williams had 19 points and 8 assist, and Keith Langston added 17 points as Pasadena (7-9, 1-1) beat East Los Angeles 82-81 in overtime. Marquis Salmon led East Los Angeles (8-8, 0-2) with 17 points in the loss. In the other South Coast North game of the night 3rd ranked Mt. San Antonio (15-1, 2-0) beat 8th ranked Los Angeles Harbor 76-61.
SOUTH COAST SOUTH CONFERENCE
In South Coast South action Cerritos (7-10, 1-1) beat Los Angeles Southwest 81-74 on Friday night. Micah Winn had 24 points and Jeff Gonzalez added 16 points and 7 rebounds for Cerritos. Reggie Fields had 16 points and 9 rebounds in the loss for Los Angeles Southwest (6-7, 0-2). In other action, El Camino-Compton Center (11-5, 2-0) won their seventh straight game with a 81-77 victory over Los Angeles Trade Tech (3-13, 0-2). Taurus Dantignac had 17 points and Jayvon Brown added 16 points in the win for Compton. Ashwell Boyd had 23 points in the loss for Trade Tech.
