Mustangs end Vikings winning streak in Big 8 opener

Mira Costa Tournament

In first round action at the Mira Costa Tournament, Javan Perry had 26 points and 7 rebounds, and Takoda Borwne added 15 points and 9 rebounds as 13th ranked San Diego Miramar (13-4) slipped past Moorpark 80-75 in first round action. Damian Wilson and Ethan Herman each had 14 points in the loss for Moorpark (6-7). In other first round action, Jamar Hammonds posted 15 points and 7 rebounds, and Sean Leflore added 12 points and 8 rebounds as Bakersfield (12-7) edged past 4th ranked San Diego 73-71 to advance to the semi finals. Robert Taylor had 12 points and 9 rebounds and Nate Edwards added 11 points in the loss for San Diego (14-5). In the third match up of the day, Antone Warren had 16 points and 10 rebounds and D’Mauria Jones added 17 points as 12th ranked Antelope Valley (10-6) picked up a 79-75 win over Los Angeles Pierce (5-9). Kelton Conway had 20 points and Brandon White added 15 points and 6 rebounds in the loss for Los Angeles Pierce. In the night cap, Billy Brown had 18 points and 9 rebounds, and Brett Hollins added 16 points and 12 rebounds as Mira Costa (10-7) knocked off Grossmont 76-63. Ronald Blain had 18 points and 15 rebounds and Bryce Parsons added 11 points in the loss for Grossmont (8-8).

Big 8 Conference

Pleasant Hill, CA – San Joaquin Delta 69 (5) Diablo Valley 59

Mike Anderson had 17 points and Darnell Harris added 14 points as San Joaquin Delta (8-6, 1-0) won their conference opener 69-59 on the road against Diablo Valley (12-4, 0-1).

Modesto, CA – Cosumnes River 68 Modesto 60

Leondre Lintz had 22 points and Robert Tolbert added 13 points as Cosumnes River (10-6, 1-0) picked up a 68-60 win over Modesto (4-9, 0-1) on the road.

Santa Rosa, CA – (9) Santa Rosa 75 American River 54

In Big 8 action Erik Poulsen had 19 points and Justin Frazier added 14 points as 9th ranked Santa Rosa (10-5, 1-0) won their conference opener with a 75-54 win over American River (7-5, 0-1). Richard Reed had 20 points in the loss for the Beavers.

Rocklin, CA – Sierra 82 (15) Sacramento 63

Rashard Thornhill had 17 points and Josh Gonzales added 14 points as Sierra (6-9, 1-0) picked up a 82-63 win over 15th ranked Sacramento (8-7, 0-1). K.J Duronslet had 27 points in the loss for the Panthers.

Bay Valley Conference

Napa, CA – Napa 66 Mendocino 55

Jabriel Allen had 17 points, Trent Rojas added 17 points and 15 rebounds and Malik Tyndale added 17 points and 10 assist as Napa (3-9, 1-1) picked up a 66-55 win over Mendocino (1-11, 0-3). Herm Brown had 14 points and 10 rebounds Ron Turkvan added 13 points and 6 rebounds  in the loss.

Fairfield, CA – (2) Yuba 77 Solano 64 

2nd ranked Yuba (13-2, 3-0) picked up a 77-64 win over Solano (6-7, 1-1) on Tuesday night to stay undefeated in Bay Valley Conference action. RJ Louis had 19 points and  Chance Pippin added 10 points in the loss.

 Kentfield, CA – (8) Marin 103 Alameda 77

8th ranked Marin (8-3, 3-0) kept pace with Yuba with a 103-77 win over unranked Alameda (1-11, 0-3).

Pittsburg, CA – Los Medanos 70 Contra Costa 68

Los Medanos (4-8, 1-2) went up by 13 at halftime and held on to hand Contra Costa (4-10, 2-1) a 70-68 loss in Bay Valley Conference action. Steven Evans had 21 points and 7 rebounds and Kolman Kelly added 21 points in the loss for Contra Costa.

Non Conference action

Ventura, CA – (7) Riverside 97 Ventura 68

Andre Wilson had 21 points and CJ Clark added 17 points as 7th ranked Riverside (13-4) used a second half explosion to crush Ventura 97-68 in non conference action on Tuesday night. Vida Faniel had 16 points and 15 rebounds and Calvin Young added 13 points in the loss for Ventura (9-8).

Glendora, CA – (5) Citrus 75 Rio Hondo 53

Khalil Williams had 15 points and 6 rebounds and Kyle Gray added 6 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assist as 5th ranked Citrus (13-3) crushed Rio Hondo 75-53. Deshaun Carr had 14 points and 7 rebounds and Derek Ohara added 10 points in the loss for Rio Hondo (8-9).

Oroville, CA – (14) Butte 106 Simpson JV 66

Josiah Wood had 24 points and Andrew Whitsett added 18 points as 14th ranked Butte (12-6) ended a three game skid with a 106-66 win over the Simpson JV squad.
