Modesto wins opener over Reedley

Eight teams were in action on a quiet Tuesday night of hoops in California junior college basketball. Three teams opened up thier seasons tonight as Modesto went on the road and picked up a victory over Reedley in Central California. 5th ranked Riverside moved to 4-0 with a win over Barstow on the road, Arizona Western cruised to a victory over Imperial Valley and Long Beach picked up a win over Cypress in non conference action in Southern California.

Reedley, CA – Modesto 72 Reedley 63

In Central California, Nick Obazuaye had 16 points and 24 rebounds and Jaron Dickson and Jameil King each added 14 points as Modesto (1-0) picked up a 72-63 win on the road against Reedley (0-1). Jeron Bowers and Ruben Parks each had 21 points for Reedley in the loss.

Barstow, CA – (5) Riverside 87 Barstow 63

In the desert, Kane Daniels had 24 points and Andre Wilson added 20 points as 5th ranked Riverside (4-0) picked up their fourth straight win with a 87-63 win on the road against Barstow (0-3).

Long Beach, CA – Long Beach 78 Cypress 66

In the home opener for the Vikings, William English had 23 points and Isaiah Keyes added 13 points and 5 rebounds as Long Beach (2-2) picked up a 78-66 win over Cypress (0-1). Hayden Moore had 19 points and 5 rebounds and Brennon Palmer added 15 points and 6 rebounds in the loss for the Chargers.

Yuma, AZ – Arizona Western 98 Imperial Valley 68

In Arizona on Tuesday night, Arizona Western cruised to a 98-68 victory over Imperial Valley (1-3). Marquis Ellison had 17 points and Maurice White added 14 points in the loss for the Arabs.
