The Modesto Tournament will begin today at 1pm as eight teams from Northern California will be in action. Three ranked teams highlighted by 4tth ranked and undefeated Columbia highlight the field in a solid tournament.

In the first game of the day, Cosumnes River (4-5) will take on 6th ranked Fresno (3-3) in first round action at 1pm. The Hawks come into the tournament losing two of their last three games as Cosnumes River lost in the consolation championship against Reedley in their own tournament last week. Fresno comes into the tournament with a 3-3 record but the Rams have faced four ranked teams. Fresno has lost twice to San Francisco and suffered another loss against Santa Rosa. The Rams are number six in the rankings and we expect Fresno to be a force through out the season despite their slow start.

In the second game of the day, 4th ranked Columbia (6-0) will face Folsom Lake (1-4) in first round action. The two teams met last week as the Claimjumpers cruised to a 88-68 win in Sonora. The 4th ranked Claimjumpers have started the season off winning six straight games and are one of two undefeated teams left in the state. This will be the Claimjumpers first time playing away from Sonora today in first round action. Folsom Lake comes into the game winning their last outing as the Falcons picked up their first win beating Marin 101-83 at home on Tuesday. Folsom Lake is 0-3 against teams that are ranked inside of our rankings as the Falcons have lost against Mendocino, Yuba and Columbia and suffered another close loss in overtime against West Hills-Lemoore. The winner and loser of this matchup with face off against Cosumnes River or Fresno in the semi finals.

In other action Ohlone (2-4) will face off against 14th ranked Mendocino (6-2). The Renegades come into the game on a three game losing streak and have lost to two ranked opponents this season. Ohlone has victories over Monterey and Modesto and the Renegades come into first round action looking to pick up a win over a ranked opponent inside of our Signal The Light Basketball rankings. 14th ranked Mendocino has struggled of late after winning their first five games of the season as the Eagles have lost two of their last three games. Mendocino suffered losses against Butte and Shasta before ending their two game skid against Redwoods. Mendocino will look to advance to the semi finals with a win over the Coast North opponent as action begins at 5pm.

In the final game of the night at 7pm, Lassen (6-4) will face off against tournament host Modesto (1-5). The tournament host Pirates have started the season losing five of their first six games with their only win coming against Redwoods on November 15th. Modesto has lost two of their five games to opponents inside of our week our Signal The Light Basketball rankings. Modesto will look to advance to the semi finals with a win over the Golden Valley opponent. Meanwhile, Lassen comes into the game winners of six of ten to start the season. The Cougars come into the game on a two game losing streak as Lassen struggled last week at the Columbia Classic losing to West Hills-Coalinga and Columbia. Lassen has been inside of our rankings for most the year but slipped out after last weeks losses. Lassen will try and get back on track with a win today. The winner of this game will face off against the Ohlone and Mendocino winner in the semi finals on Friday.
