Academics is a term that sometimes is overlooked when you use the term involved with student athletes. The points, wins, and losses is what most outsiders judge a teams success on the court. Welcome to Los Altos, home of the Foothill College Owls. In his first season as head coach, Matt Stanley led the Owls to a 15-13 record. The Owls finished fourth place in the loaded Coast North Conference. Foothill beat De Anza College in the first round of the state playoffs before eventually losing to the 2nd seeded Fresno City Rams in the 2nd round. Foothill is also making great off the court statements as well. “We want to get good people first and foremost,” Stanley replied when asked about the type of culture he wants at Foothill. “We want to have serious students,” Matt Stanley added. Stanley and the Owls have one of the highest GPA’s when it comes to junior college basketball in California. When it comes to recruiting Stanley mentioned, “We want to get the best available players who are good people as well.” The Owls will look to build from a 7-5 conference record with 2 major contributors coming back next season. “The core guys have made improvements this spring,” said Stanley. The Owls will return “6-2” slashing guard Janvier Alaby who averaged 12.4 points last season. The Owls will also welcome back the “6-4” left handed Aussie Seth Turner who came up big last season averaging 11.5 points and 7.0 rebounds a game. Coach Stanley also mentioned “6-4” guard Gagandeep Chana and three point specialist “5-10” guard J.J.Espanola who shot over 40% from downtown last season.
