Marin wins BVC opener

It was opening day in the Bay Valley Conference for six teams, and five other non conference games were played on a Friday night in hoops in California. 8th ranked College of the Marin (10-2) picked up its first conference win of the season with a road victory over Los Medanos 71-63. In other action, top ranked Canada beat Monterey 70-64 on the road. In Southern California, 12th ranked Long Beach cruised to a 99-75 victory over Santa Barbara on the road.

Pittsburg, CA – (8) Marin 73 Los Medanos 61

Willie Rooks had 16 points and Pierre Carter added 15 points as 8th ranked College of the Marin (10-2, 1-0) beat Los Medanos Friday night. It was the conference opener for both teams as the 8th ranked Mariners took home the win on the road.

Fairfield, CA – Yuba 88 Solano 62

Yuba (4-6, 1-0) opened up conference play with a 88-62 victory on the road against Solano Friday night. Vasilje Saraba had 21 points and 11 rebounds, and Manny Malou added 16 points and 14 rebounds in the win. Donovan Smith and Koree Cox each had 18 points in the loss for Solano (2-8, 0-1).

Alameda, CA- Mendocino 79 Alameda 74

Mendocino picked up a 79-74 road victory in the opening night of Bay Valley Conference play. Mendocino (5-6) will next face Yuba at home on January 8th.

Monterey, CA – (1) Canada 70 Monterey 64

Rohndell Goodwin had 22 points and 6 rebounds and Manny Martin added 17 points and 11 rebounds as Canada (14-1) overcame a five point halftime deficit to beat the Lobos Friday night. Isaac Clark had 22 points for Monterey (6-7) in the loss.

Santa Barbara, CA – (12) Long Beach 99 Santa Barbara 75

Brandon Staton made seven three pointers and had 25 points and Andre Springer added 14 points as Long Beach (9-4) cruised to a 99-75 road win. The Vikings made 18 three pointers on the night. Ty Cleland had 16 points in the loss for Santa Barbara (4-8).

Ventura, CA – Ventura 67 Riverside 53

Eric Davis had 17 points and 9 rebounds and Vondel Faniel added 16 points and 11 rebounds as Ventura (7-10) beat Riverside 67-53 in non conference action. Viali Chamberlain had 23 points and 8 rebounds in the loss for Riverside (5-10).

Fremont, CA – (7) Ohlone 79 De Anza 67

Ryo Tawatari had 17 points and Taylor Meekor added 15 points as 7th ranked Ohlone (13-4) beat De Anza 79-67. Nate Vieira had 21 points in the loss for De Anza (5-9).
