Long Beach wins third straight with road win over Riverside

 

Riverside, CA – (9) Long Beach 75 (10) Riverside 70

In a battle of two teams ranked in our Southern California Signal The Light Basketball rankings,  sophomore Jamiu Akinbile scored a game high of 30 points with 6 rebounds and Jace Bass added 16 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists as 9th ranked Long Beach (3-0) stayed undefeated with a 75-70 road win over 10th ranked Riverside (3-1). CJ Clark had 20 points and was the only Tiger in double figures in the loss.

Santa Monica, CA – (12) Cerritos 75 (13) Santa Monica 61

In another battle of ranked teams within our rankings, 12th ranked Cerritos opened up a big halftime lead and cruised past 13th ranked Santa Monica on the road to win their season opener 75-61 on Wednesday night. Cody Wilkes had 17 points and Jamal Heckard added 13 points and 8 rebounds in the win for the Cerritos (1-0). Marcus Harris has 15 points and 5 rebounds in the loss for Santa Monica (2-2) and was the only player for the Corsairs in double digits.

Cypress, CA – Cypress 77 Canyons 62

Mike Magee had 19 points and 5 rebounds, and Kyle Small added 16 points and made four three pointers as Cypress (1-0) won their season opener with a 77-62 win over Canyons (1-2) at home. Zach Phipps had 14 points and was the only Cougar in double figures for Canyons.

Chula Vista, CA – (14) Southwestern 80 Irvine Valley 50

Marquavian Stephens had 25 points and 12 rebounds, and Quincy Ferebee added 9 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists as 14th ranked Southwestern (3-1) cruised to a 8–50 win over Irvine Valley (0-1).

Torrance, CA – El Camino 79 Bakersfield 70

Justin Chambers had 26 points and 7 rebounds and Jamal Howard added 18 points as El Camino (1-1) picked up their first win of the season with a  79-70 win over Bakersfield (0-1). Animus Medrano had 16 points and 5 assists and Shahadah Camp added 13 points in the loss for the Renegades.

El Cajon, CA – MiraCosta 70 Cuyamaca 58

Marcus Foster had 17 points and Mikhail Land added 15 points as MiraCosta (2-2) won their second straight game with a 70-58 win against Cuyamaca (0-4). It was the Coyotes fourth straight loss to start the season off.

Orville, CA – Butte 91 Sierra 89 (OT)

Noah Zoppi had 28 points and Eric Boose added 26 points as Butte (2-2) won their second straight game with a 91-89 overtime win against Sierra (1-2).

Joshua Tree, CA – Copper Mountain 96 Barstow 83

Anthony Rice had 23 points and Zack Kroger and Dillon Voyles each added 12 points as Copper Mountain (2-2) picked up their second straight win with a 96-83 over Barstow (0-3). Grab Walter had a game high of 32 points and added 10 rebounds in the loss for the Vikings.

Culver City, CA – West Los Angeles 101 Oxnard 99

Derrick Woods had 22 points and 8 rebounds and Jeremy Hamilton and Terrell Waiters each had 15 points as West Los Angeles (3-1) picked up a home victory beating Oxnard 101-99. The loss gave Oxnard (0-3) their third straight loss of the early season.
