Long Beach knocks off Trade Tech in battle of ranked Socal teams

In a battle of two top ten teams in Southern California, Jace Bass had 26 points and 8 rebounds and Jamiu Akinbile added 17 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists as 6th ranked Long Beach (14-2) won their fifth straight game with a 89-72 win over 8th ranked Los Angeles Trade Tech (12-3). Fredelin Dela Cruz had 31 points and 14 rebounds and Tyler Jelks added 18 points in the loss for the Beavers.

Coast North Conference


San Mateo, CA – (1) San Francisco 82 (9) Canada 69

In Coast North Conference action, Deschon Winston had 22 points and 7 steals and Emeka Udenyi added 16 points and 5 rebounds as top ranked San Francisco (17-1, 2-0) picked up a 82-69 road win over 9th ranked Canada (13-5, 0-2). Josh Blueford had 15 points and Kaden Bradley added 12 points in the loss for the Colts. The loss moves the Colts two games behind early on in Coast North Conference action.

Livermore, CA – (5) Las Positas 89 Ohlone 72

Freshmen Michael Wright scored 32 points and added 7 rebounds and counterpart Wesley Burse added 16 points and 5 rebounds as 5th ranked Las Positas (13-3, 2-0) won their fifth straight game and picked up their second straight conference win with a 89-72 win over Ohlone (4-13, 0-1). Kirmarje Trent had 30 points and Aidan Graham added 20 points in the loss for the Renegades.

Los Altos, CA – Foothill 66 Chabot 53

Blake Henry scored 20 points and Jamar Gaddis added 12 points as Foothill (7-10, 1-1) picked up a 66-53 win over Chabot (8-10, 1-1). Jabari Sweet had 12 points and 6 rebounds and Jordan McGlory added 11 points and 8 rebounds in the loss for the Gladiators.

Riverside, CA – Cypress 71 (10) Riverside 56

Mike Magee had 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and Hayden Moore added 14 points as Cypress (12-6, 1-1) picked up their first win in conference action with a 71-56 road win against 10th ranked Riverside (11-7, 0-2). C.J. Clark had 16 points and 4 assists and Otto Taylor added 10 points in the loss for the Tigers.

Mission Viejo, CA – (12) Saddleback 69 Copper Mountain 58

J.J. Overton had 13 points and 10 rebounds and Sean Birk added 13 points as 12th ranked Saddleback (11-7, 2-0) won their second straight conference game with a 69-58 home win against Copper Mountain (10-8, 0-2). Anthony Rice had a game high of 21 points and added 8 assists and Dominique Anderson had 11 points and 10 rebounds in the loss for the Fighting Cacti.

Santa Ana, CA – Santa Ana 80 Orange Coast 48

Ramon Lopez had 21 points and 4 assists and Sean Githens added 13 points and 4 rebounds as Santa Ana (8-10, 1-0) picked up their first win in conference action picking up a 80-48 win over Orange Coast (3-15, 1-1). Michael Estrada had 9 points and 7 rebounds in the loss for the Pirates.

Irvine, CA – (1) Fullerton 74 Irvine Valley 53

Lance Coleman had 22 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and Rodrick McCobb added 19 points as top ranked Fullerton (17-1, 2-0) picked up a huge 74-53 win over Irvine Valley (3-15, 0-2) on Friday evening to remain unbeaten in conference. Geoff Salas had 16 points in the loss for the Lasers.

Salinas, CA – (6) Cabrillo 69 Hartnell 46

Yeskin Williams and Trey Whitley each had 19 points as 6th ranked Cabrillo (13-4, 2-0) won their second straight conference game with a 69-46 win over Hartnell (7-10, 0-2).

Cupertino, CA – West Valley 88 De Anza 85

Devante Johnson scored 31 points as West Valley (7-10, 1-0) won their conference opener with a 88-85 win over De Anza (8-10, 0-2). Ajay Singh scored 28 points and added 11 rebounds while Darien Davis added 21 points in the loss for the Dons in Coast South Conference action.

Monterey, CA – Monterey 79 San Jose 65

Anthony Dennis had 21 points and 7 rebounds and Cyle Carter added 12 points and 4 assists as Monterey (8-10, 2-0) remained atop the Coast South Conference standings with a 79-65 win at home against San Jose (0-17, 0-2) on Friday evening. Yakuba Mansaray had 19 points and Jared Bailey added 18 points for the Jaguars who remained winless with their 17th straight loss on the season.

Santa Rosa, CA – (4) Santa Rosa 95 Sierra 78

Skylar Chavez had 34 points and Nick Cole added 19 points as 4th ranked Santa Rosa (13-4, 4-1) stayed within a half game of first place with a 95-78 win over Sierra (6-11, 2-3).

Stockton, CA – (11) San Joaquin Delta 85 (12) American River 83

Spencer Montiero had 21 points and 11 rebounds and Cameron Pieters added 22 points as 11th ranked San Joaquin Delta (13-5, 5-1)  picked up a 85-83 win over 12th ranked American River (11-4, 3-2).

Modesto, CA – Cosumnes River 70 Modesto 46

Marcus Robinson had 15 points and Samuel Cota added 12 points as Cosumnes River (9-9, 4-2) remained a game within first place with a 70-46 win over Modesto (4-13, 0-5) on the road on Friday night. Kharyem Mitchell scored 14 points in the loss for the Pirates which lost thier fifth straight in Big 8 Conference action.

Sacramento, CA – Folsom Lake 80 (14) Sacramento 69

Matt Lyon had 27 points and Will Fitzpatrick added 17 points as Folsom Lake (7-10, 2-3) picked up a 80-69 victory over 14th ranked Sacramento (11-7, 3-3). Gregory Milton III scored 23 points in the loss for the Panthers.

Brandon Recek scored a game high of 28 points and 5 other 49ers scored in double figures as 7th ranked Yuba (14-4, 5-1) stayed atop the Bay Valley Conference standings with a 80-70 home win against 10th ranked Mendocino (11-6, 2-3). Larry Bryson had 17 points and Jared Strate added 14 points in the loss for the Eagles.

Kentfield, CA – Marin 78 Solano 73

Alfonso Murrie had 16 points and Joey Potts added 14 points as Marin (8-9, 4-2) remained a game within first place with a 78-73 overtime home win against Solano (2-14, 0-5).

San Pablo, CA – Contra Costa 90 Napa Valley 56

In the Bay Area, Contra Costa (9-9, 5-1) pulled to an even .500 and stayed in a first place tie with Yuba cruising past Napa Valley 90-56 on Friday evening. The Comets have now won five straight games since losing their conference opener against Merritt. Malcolm Brady and Tyler Gerrard each scored 10 points in the loss for Napa Valley (3-14, 1-4).

Alameda, CA – Los Medanos 80 Alameda 70

Charles Jones had 19 points and Raazhel Watkins scored 14 points as Los Medanos (10-7, 3-2) went on the road and picked up a 80-70 win over Alameda (5-12, 1-4). Julian Taylor had 24 points and Patrick Washington added 17 points in the loss for the Cougars.

Monterey Park, CA – (5) East Los Angeles 77 Los Angeles Harbor 76

Alec Hickman scored 14 points and Deshaun Highler hit a game winning three pointer and added 11 points as 5th ranked East Los Angeles (13-3) won their sixth straight game slipping past Los Angeles Harbor 77-76 in non conference action on Friday night. Henry Johnson, Quincy Pinkard and Chris Jackson all had 16 points in the loss for Los Angles Harbor (7-9).

Culver City, CA – (14) West Los Angeles 77 (9) Citrus 72 (OT)

Jeremy Hamilton scored a game high of 25 points and Mark Carter added 11 points and 22 rebounds as 14th ranked West Los Angeles (14-6) slipped past 9th Citrus 77-72 on Friday night. Josh Caston had 20 points and Psalm Maduakor added 16 points and 10 rebounds in the loss for Citrus (11-6).

Rancho Cucamonga, CA – Chaffey 79 El Camino 63

Isaiah McCullough had 16 points and Andy Torices added 13 points as Chaffey (11-5) cruised past El Camino 79-63 in non conference action on Friday evening. Justin Chambers had 23 points in the loss for El Camino (3-13).

Chula Vista, CA – (7) Southwestern 77 MiraCosta 63

Marquavian Stephens had 18 points and Jordan Cooke added 13 points and 11 rebounds as 7th ranked Southwestern (14-4) picked up a 77-63 win over MiraCosta (9-9). Xaiver Allison had 18 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists and Devyian Roberson added 12 points in the loss for the Spartans.

Pasadena, CA – Pasadena 71 Compton 59

Chris Odionu had 20 points and 7 rebounds and Chris Blount added 8 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists as Pasadena (11-5) used a big second half to get past Compton 71-59 on Friday night. Samoore Riley Jr. had 15 points and Aaron Gibson added 14 points and 7 rebounds in the loss for Compton (9-7).

Walnut, CA – Mt. San Antonio 80 Los Angeles Southwest 75

Joseph Gonzalez had 24 points and made seven three pointers and Daniel Dejoya added 14 points and 8 assists as Mt. San Antonio (7-8) picked up a 80-75 win over Los Angeles Southwest (5-11). Darren Calhoun had 16 points and Abdou Gueyer added 12 points in the loss for the Cougars.

Timothy Turner had 24 points and Lamont Sanders made five three pointers and had 23 points and 7 assists as Ventura (10-9) slipped past Canyons 86-81 in non conference action. Jude Agbasi had 26 points and 5 assists and Zach Phipps added 18 points and 5 rebounds in the loss for Canyons (9-12).

Whittier, CA – (3) Cerritos 102 Rio Hondo 50

Chance Hunter had 20 points and Jamal Heckard posted 12 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists as 3rd ranked Cerritos (13-3) dismantled Rio Hondo 102-50 in non conference action. Elijah McElroy had 13 points and 6 assists and Kevin Sandoval added 12 points in the loss for  Rio Hondo (3-13).

Palm Desert, CA – Desert 86 Cuyamaca 53

Marquette Eddie had 19 points and Nicholas Pete added 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists as Desert (9-9) cruised past Cuyamaca 86-53 in non conference action on Friday night. Moses Smith had 9 points and 9 rebounds in the loss for Cuyamaca (3-15).

Oxnard, CA – Los Angeles Valley 72 Oxnard 66

Christian Hodge had 20 points and Micah Cooper added 14 points as Los Angeles Valley (10-8) edged Oxnard 72-66 in non conference action. Kivaris Myricks had 15 points  and William Blue added 14 points in the loss for Oxnard (4-11).

San Marcos, CA – Grossmont 60 Palomar 59 

Josh Peloquin had 17 points and Marc Cabrera added 16 points and 6 rebounds as Grossmont (3-15) edged Palomar 60-59 on Friday evening. Jamario Harris had 21 points and 8 rebounds and Marek Sullivan added 13 points and 11 rebounds for Palomar (6-11) which lost for the fourth straight time.
