Teams: (15) Monterey (2-1), Ventura (2-1), Lassen (2-1), (10) Canada (1-2), Hancock (1-2), Marin (0-1), Modesto (1-0), Ohlone. 

Matchups: The Jon Wallace Memorial Tournament will get under way tomorrow as six teams from Northern California, and two Southern California teams will participate at the three day event in Fremont, California. In first round action, at 1pm tomorrow, 15th ranked Monterey will take on Ventura in a battle of two solid teams. Both teams are coming off 2-1 weekends and both will look to pick up a victory in first round action. The 15th ranked Lobos are coming off a 3rd place finish at the San Jose City College Tip Off Tournament. Monterey (2-1) picked up a first round victory against Porterville 101-94 but lost to Foothill in the semi finals and the Lobos picked up a 3rd place victory over tournament host San Jose on the final day of the tournament. The Lobos have three players averaging in double figures led by sophomore guard Elijah Nesbit. The 5-8 point guard is averaging 15.7 points and 8.0 assists through three games this season. In the sophomores last outing he posted 15 points and 11 assists against San Jose in the 3rd place game. Deshawnte Collins is averaging 14.3 points and 9.0 rebounds Isaiah King-Halsey is averaging 13.0 points for the Lobos through three games. Meanwhile, Ventura (2-1) picked up the consolation title at their own tournament last weekend and will come into the match up with a 2-1 record. After suffering a first round loss to Orange Coast, the Pirates recovered nicely and picked up wins over Los Angeles Valley and Pasadena to bring home the consolation title. Three Ventura players are averaging in double figures for the Pirates. Sophomore Isiah Reyes is averaging 25.3 points and is getting to the line 17 times a game through the first three games. Jacob Alonzo is another Pirate averaging in double figures as the shooter is averaging 15.3 points per game and shooting 42% from behind the three point line. Freshman John Williams is averaging 14.3 points and 5.7 rebounds and had a game high of 20 points against Orange Coast in the opener. The winner/loser of this first round match up will face off against Lassen and Canada.

In the second game of the day taking place at 3pm, Allan Hancock (1-2) will face off against Marin (0-1). Both teams are coming off disappointing weekends as Marin went on the road and suffered a 77-75 loss to Skyline. In that game, Eric Mireri and Derek Morgan each scored 24 points in the loss to the Trojans. Marin will look to rebound against Hancock in first round action. Allan Hancock will look to get back on track after losing their final two games of the Cuesta Tournament last weekend. After picking up a season opening 79-68 win over West Hills, the Bulldogs lost to West Valley and Sequoias by a combined total of six points. The Bulldogs began the season in our top 15 in Southern California but did lost two very close games. Point guard Shane Carney leads the Bulldogs in scoring after averaging 15.7 points and 5.3 assists last weekend. Devin Davis is the only other Bulldog in double figures as the sophomore is averaging 10.3 points and 4.7 rebounds through three games. Spirit Ricks (9.7 points) and Glenn Jordan (8.7 points) both are freshman who had solid weekends and will look to provide some scoring options for Hancock (1-2).

In the third game of the day, Lassen (2-1) will face off against 10th ranked Canada (1-2). Lassen will look to advance out the first round after winning the consolation championship at the San Jose City College Tournament last weekend. Lassen opened up with a loss against Gavilan 67-55 but followed up the loss with two wins over Cosumnes River and Merced. The Cougars have three players averaging in double figures led by Unwana Ekiko who is averaging 17.0 points per contest.. Xaiver Lovelace (12.3 points and 10.0 rebounds) is averaging a double double so far, Kameron Brandon (11.7 points), and Chailen August (9.3 points) are three freshmen that have contributed with a scoring punch for Lassen through three games. The Cougars will look to pick up a win over a ranked opponent. 10th ranked Canada had a tough weekend at the San Francisco Tournament as the Colts went 1-2. After picking up a 84-70 win over Mt. San Antonio in first round action, the Colts lost big to Fresno 93-77 and ended up losing to a solid Yuba team 93-85. Three Colts are averaging in double figures to start off the season led by sophomore Keith Dickerson. The sophomore is averaging 17.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per contest through three games. Dickerson scored a game high of 21 points against Yuba on Sunday. Antony Navarrete is averaging 17.0 points and Alex Manu (11.7 points) are the two other Colts averaging in double figures. If the Colts pick up a victory they will face the winner of the Ventura and Monterey game.

In the final match up of the first round, Modesto will face off against Ohlone. Modesto is coming off a win last night on the road against Reedley as the Pirates won 72-63. Nick Obazuaye had 16 points and 24 rebounds, and Jaron Dickson and Jameil King each added 14 points in the opener for Modesto. The Pirates will look to advance past the first round as they will face the tournament host Renegades. Meanwhile, Ohlone is coming off a 21 win season but the Renegades are returning three players from that team. Bryce Thompson, Cameron Bradley, and Micah Webster-Butler will look to have standout sophomore campaigns. Vinnie Safin is a transfer from Simon Fraser will look to contribute for the Renegades. It will be the season opener for Ohlone as they will look to knock off Modesto and face the winner of Marin/Hancock in the semi finals.
