Teams: Hancock (10-6), (2) East Los Angeles (12-3), Mt. San Jacinto (6-10), (10) Los Angeles Harbor (10-5), (5) San Bernardino (13-4), Santa Barbara (1-10), Pasadena (7-6), Cuesta (9-9).

Matchups: Eight Southern California teams go into action later today at the Hinson’s Tire Pros Winter Classic hosted by Cuesta College. Three ranked teams within our rankings will take part in the three day event.

In the first game of the day, Hancock (10-6) will face off against 2nd ranked East Los Angeles (12-3). The Bulldogs come into todays matchup winning four of their last five games but will have their hands full today against the 2nd ranked team in our Signal The Light Basketball rankings. Shane Carney will look to head the upset as the sophomore guard leads the Bulldogs in scoring averaging 16.1 points, 5.8 assists, and 3.7 rebounds this season. Spirit Ricks is the other Bulldog averaging in double figures as the freshman is averaging 10.0 points and 6.8 rebounds this season. Glenn Jordan (9.7 points) and Devin Davis (8.9 points) will look to have big games today against the 2nd ranked Huskies. East Los Angeles comes into the game on a three game winning streak. Last weekend the Huskies won the Cuyamaca Tournament and    East Los Angeles has won six of their last seven games. Roderick Williams leads the Huskies in scoring as the sophomore is averaging 20.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest this season. Frank Bertz has been great for the Huskies as the sophomore standout is averaging 14.1 points and 2.6 rebounds while shooting 51% from downtown this season. Jacob Tryon (12.8 points and 5.1 rebounds) and Solomon Hunt (10.0 points and 6.9 rebounds) are both averaging in double figures and have had solid seasons for the Huskies.

In the second game, Mt. San Jacinto (6-10) will batttle 10th ranked Los Angeles Harbor (10-5). The Eagles will look to get on track before conference starts. If Mt. San Jacinto is looking to make a post season push it will start today. Mt. San Jacinto has lost four of five and will look to get on track against the 10th ranked Seahawks. Davon Sanders has had a solid season scoring the basketball this season as the sophomore is averaging 18.3 points and 5.2 rebounds this season. Sanders scored a season high of 39 points against West Hills and the sophomore has scored over 20 points six times this season. David Thompson is the other Eagle averaging in double figures as the freshman is averaging 10.2 points this season. C.J Hyder (8.0 points) and A.J. Walton (7.3 points) will look to contribute today against a solid team. Los Angeles Harbor has a three headed monster when it comes to putting the ball in the basket as Joel Anderson, Quincy Pinkard and Henry Johnson are having standout seasons for the Seahawks. Anderson leads the team in scoring as the sophomore is averaging 20.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 5.7 assists this season. Anderson has been one of the most all around guards statiscally for the past two seasons. Pinkard is having a solid freshman season as the guard is averaging 18.2 points and 3.7 rebounds and Henry Johnson is in double digits as the guard is averaging 17.1 points and 3.1 rebounds this season. Manfread Ngante (9.8 points) and Chris Jackson (8.3 points) will look to contribute today for the Seahawks in first round action.

In other action in the first round, 5th ranked San Bernardino (13-4) will take on Santa Barbara (1-10). The Wolverines come into the tournament lost three o thier last four games but two of the losses were against national junior colleges at the Mesa Fiesta Bowl Classic in Arizona.  Kevin McNeal leads the Wolverines in scoring as the sophomore is averaging 13.4 points and 3.9 rebounds per contest this season. Craig LeCesne is another player averaging in double figures as the sophomore is averaging 12.9 points and 6.2 rebounds per contest this season. Kendall Lauderdale (10.3 points and 4.8 rebounds) and Chris Johnson (7.6 points) will look to have big games in first round action against the Vaqueros. Santa Barabara comes into the contest on a three game losing streak and the Vaqueros have not played since December 15th. It has been a rough season for Santa Barbara as the team has won one game all season. Dejon Jackson leads the team in scoring as the freshman is averaging 14.5 points and 8.2 rebounds per game this season. Jackson has been a standout this season for Santa Barbara. Aaron Mejia (11.7 points) and Drayten Howell (11.3 points and 5.9 assists) have played well and will look to have big games in first round action against the  5th ranked team in our Southern California Signal The Light Basketball rankings.

In the final game of the first round, Pasadena (7-6) will take on Cuesta. The Lancers will look to win their third straight game as they go into first round action against the tournament host. Joe Hampton leads Pasadena in scoring as the freshman is averaging 16.6 points and 5.5 rebounds. Hampton has scored over 20 points four times this season and the front court standout scored 30 points twice this season. Kyle Mitchell (11.5 points and 6.6 rebounds) and Josiah Woods (7.2 points) will look to contribute today against Cuesta in first round action. The Cougars come into the matchup winning three of their last four games and Cuesta went 7-6 in December. Two Cuesta players are averaging in double figures led by sophomore Noah Saunders. The wing is averaging 18.5 points and 8.1 rebounds this season and has been a standout this season for the Cougars. Josh Wilson-Murry will look to have an impact as the freshman is averaging 11.7 points and 3.5 rebounds for Cuesta. Finn Whetstone (8.5 points) and Rodrigo Majarin (8.2 points) have played solid as well and will look to have a solid game today against Pasadena.
