After having the day off due to Thanksgiving, four tournaments will begin tomorrow. Below you can find a preview of each tournament and other action starting off the weekend action of another weekend of hoops around California.
Citrus Tournament – Glendora, CA
The Citrus Tournament begins tomorrow and last until Sunday with 8 Southern California teams taken part. In action beginning at 1pm, host school, Citrus College (1-2) will face off against 14th ranked Moorpark (5-2). Freshman Mark Williams leads Citrus in scoring with 16.3 points and averages 8.3 rebounds per game. Moorpark is led by freshman duo Joshua Brooks and Larry Bush as both players average over 15 points per game on the season. In the second game, 5th ranked East Los Angeles (5-1) will take on winless Orange Coast (0-4) at 3pm. Marcus Romain leads the Huskies in scoring averaging 14.7 points per game. Orange Coast is led by sophomore guard Brian Buchignani. The sophomore is averaging 13.5 points and 7.2 rebounds for Orange Coast. In game three, 7th ranked San Diego City will look to continue its three game winning streak against Victor Valley. The Knights are led by sophomores Caleb Singleton and Chris Burton who are off to hot starts this season. In the final game of the first round, 11th ranked Cuesta (4-1) will play against El Camino Compton-Center (1-0). Freshman guard Rafael Casanova leads the Cougars in scoring and will look to continue his standout play against El Camino Compton-Center.
Diablo Valley Invitational – Pleasant Hill, CA
All eight teams taking place at the Diablo Valley Invitational will be from Northern California schools and two ranked Signal The Light Basketball teams will be in action at the three day event beginning tomorrow. At 2pm, 3rd ranked San Jose City (4-1) will meet Contra Costa (2-1). The Jaguars have won three straight games since losing to Merritt College. Josue Salaam and Maurice Joiner each average over 15 points a game for the San Jose. Contra Costa will be back in action after a 19 day lay off from any games. The second game of the tournament will see Central Valley Conference team West Hills (3-5) take on Sierra (2-3). The Wolverines will look to slow down sophomore guard Justin Senou who leads West Hills in scoring at 15.6 points per game. The Falcons have five players who are averaging in double figures. At 6pm, Las Positas (3-3) will take on Solano (1-3). Sophomore guard Donovan Smith leads Solano in scoring with 18.5 points per game. In the last game, freshman guard Jarrell Tate and 9th ranked Feather River (5-1) will take on tournament host Diablo Valley (1-4). Tate is off to a blazing start and is leading Feather River in scoring and rebounding this season.
Palomar Tournament – San Marcos, CA
Seven Southern California junior college teams will participate at the Palomar Tournament starting tomorrow at 1pm. In the tournaments first game, Los Angeles Trade Tech (1-3) will face San Diego Miramar (4-2). Miramar is coming off a big win over Chaffey Tuesday night and the duo of Drew Peterson and Mike Jones have been a solid two punch combination for Miramar this season. In the second game of the day, 4th ranked Saddleback (6-1) will face undefeated Los Angeles Harbor (2-0). Connor Clifford is leading the Gauchos in scoring averaging just over 16 points per game this season. In the 5pm game, two ranked Signal The Light Basketball teams from Southern California will be in action as 10th ranked Southwestern (4-2) will face 12th ranked Los Angeles Southwest (3-1). The duo of Justin Cobb and Reggie Fields will look to look Los Angeles Southwest to a victory in this intriguing first round match up. In the last game, tournament host Palomar (3-1) will face St. Katerine.
Renegade Thanksgiving Classic – Bakersfield, CA
Six Teams will participate in at the Renegade Thanksgiving Classic beginning tomorrow in Bakersfield beginning at 2pm. In game one, newly ranked Bakersfield College (3-1) will take on winless Barstow College. Freshman Deandre Dickson will look to continue his hot start. Bakersfield will look to slow down Barstow’s John Howard who is averaging 19.8 points. In game two, Los Angeles Pierce (3-2) will take on Northern California’s Porterville College (0-4). Pierce is on a two game winning streak and looking to continue the winning streak against the Central Valley Conference team. In the last game of the night, 2nd ranked Merritt (5-1) will take on Fullerton (1-4). Merritt will look to continue its winning ways after winning the Shasta Tournament last weekend. Fullerton will try to end its three game losing streak against the Thunderbirds.
