Fullerton and San Diego pick up tournament championships

In the final day of a busy opening weekend in December, San Diego and Fullerton both picked up championships at respected tournaments over the weekend. San Diego picked up a win over Grossmont to win the Grossmont Tournament, and Fullerton picked up a win over Antelope Valley to take home the Antelope Valley championship. San Francisco picked up a win over Cypress to take home the Golden Gate Classic championship in norcal action as well. In other socal action Cerritos picked up the Mt. San Antonio tournament championship with a victory over Mt. San Antonio earlier today.

Antelope Valley Tournament

In the championship of the Gregg Anderson Memorial Tournament, Ian Fox had 16 points and 6 assist and Dillon Reise added 14 points and 8 rebounds as 5th ranked Fullerton (7-2) picked up a 71-66 win over 13th ranked Antelope Valley to take home the championship on Sunday evening. D’Mauria Jones had 22 points and 9 rebounds and Osinachi Nwachukwu added 16 points in the loss for Antelope Valley (5-5). In the third place game, Gloire Biongo had 20 points and Kevin McNeal added 19 points and 10 rebounds as top ranked San Bernardino (9-1) cruised past Ventura 92-67 to take home third place. Isiah Reyes had 28 points and was the only Ventura (7-6) player to score in double figures in the loss. In the consolation final, Austin Bryant had 30 points and 7 rebounds, and Brady Twombly added 23 points as Mira Costa (5-6) picked up a 92-78 win over Los Angeles Harbor (1-7) to take home the consolation title. Joel Anderson had 17 points and 8 assist and Donal Hughes added 15 points and 6 rebounds in the loss.

San Francisco Tournament

In the final day of the San Francisco Tournament, 2nd ranked San Francisco (10-1) won their third straight game and picked up the Golden Gate Classic championship with a 68-50 win over Cypress (2-5). In the third place game, Eric Nielsen had 16 points and 11 rebounds and Victor Mijas added 15 points as 8th ranked Diablo Valley (6-3) edged 15th ranked San Joaquin Delta 65-63 to take home third place. Jovian Cormier had 16 points and David Lerma added 13 points in the loss for Delta (3-3). In the consolation final, Austin Molezzo had 18 points and Austin Armstead added 11 points as Sequoias (5-4) picked up a 70-63 win over 13th ranked Sierra (3-5). Eric Toles had 24 points and Isiah Quintero added 10 points in the loss for the Wolverines.

Mt. San Antonio Tournament

In the championship game of the Mt. San Antonio Tournament, 10th ranked Cerritos (8-2) took home the championship with a 79-67 win over tournament host Mt. San Antonio (8-5). In the third place game, Fred Lavender had 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assist and Christian Carroll added 11 points as 5th ranked Fresno (6-3) picked up a 72-57 win over Merritt (1-4). In the consolation final, 4th ranked Citrus (9-2) won the consolation championship with a 108-76 win over Imperial Valley (2-8).

Grossmont Tournament

In the final day of the Grossmont Tournament, Darien Mcclain made six three pointers and had 26 points and 5 rebounds and Robert McCoy added 12 points as 7th ranked San Diego (12-3) won their seventh straight game with a 77-58 victory over unranked Grossmont (5-5) to take home to tournament championship. Ronald Blain had 15 points and Bryce Parsons added 15 points and 12 rebounds in the loss for Grossmont. In the third place game, Luis Herrera had 25 points and Taylor Kirkham added 18 points as Moorpark (4-5) outscored Los Angeles Southwest by 16 points in the 2nd half and picked up a 81-65 win over Los Angeles Southwest (4-7). D’lano Beckles had 12 points and Jawan Butler-Stevenson added 10 points and 6 rebounds in the loss.
