El Camino Tournament – Torrance, CA

It was another solid day of basketball in Torrance on Friday. In the winners bracket, Buddha Boyd led Mira Costa (3-2) with 20 points and had 7 rebounds in a victory over 15th ranked Moorpark 72-58. Fareed Ahmed added 9 points and 14 rebounds for Mira Costa. Mira Costa led by 10 at the half, and held off a solid Moorpark team. Joshua Brooks had 17 points for Moorpark (4-2) in the loss. In the second semi final 6th ranked Fresno City (5-2) beat Allan Hancock 60-52. James O’Neal led the Rams with 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assist in the win. Lavell White had 15 points for Hancock (1-3) in the loss. In the consolation bracket, College of the Sequoias (3-4) beat El Camino 66-55. Chris Smith led the Giants with 14 points, and Brantley Bynum added 12 points and 9 rebounds. Chris Munoz had 13 points in a losing effort for El Camino (2-2). 7th ranked Rio Hondo (6-2) beat Santa Ana 70-65 in the second consolation game. Kyle Maloof had 15 points and 4 rebounds to lead Rio Hondo. Ramez Michial had 14 points and 6 rebounds in the loss for Santa Ana (2-3). Today, in the consolation championship Rio Hondo will face Sequoias, 15th ranked Moorpark will face Allan Hancock, and Mira Costa will meet Fresno City in the championship game.

Irvine Valley Tournament – Irvine, CA

In the championship side of the bracket at the Irvine Tournament, Canyons (3-1) held off Long Beach 59-57 to move to the finals of the tournament. Coley Apsay had 19 points, 5 assist and 5 rebounds and Brenden Otero added 11 points 5 rebounds and 5 blocks for the Cougars. Chris Spencer had 19 points, and 8 rebounds for Long Beach (3-3) in the loss. In the second semi final 9th ranked Irvine Valley (2-1) beat Cerritos 65-60. Jalen Hall had 18 points and 3 assist for the Lasers in the win. Micah Winn had 20 points and 6 rebounds for Cerritos (1-2) in the loss. In the consolation bracket, 11th ranked Ventura (5-3) held off Cuyamaca 65-64 in a close game. Freshman Robert Hunt led Ventura with 27 points and Eric Davis had 16 points and 6 rebounds in the win. Edward Meledje had 21 points and 5 rebounds for Cuyamaca (2-4) in the loss. In the second game in the consolation bracket, Santa Monica (1-2) put up 62 first half points, and beat Imperial Valley 98-77. Five Santa Monica players scored in double figures led by Derrien King’s 19 points and 6 rebounds. J’Veon Jones had 18 points and 4 assist in the loss for Imperial Valley (0-4). 11th ranked Ventura will meet Santa Monica in the consolation championship today, Long Beach will face Cerritos in the 3rd place game, and Irvine Valley will look to win the championship against Canyons in todays action.

Mendocino Tournament – Ukiah, CA

In the championship bracket at the Mendocino Tournament, top ranked Lassen (9-0) beat Las Positas 82-68 in the semi finals. Lassen has now won nine consecutive games. In the second semi final game, 11th ranked Skyline (5-0) beat Modesto 58-45. On the consolation side of the bracket, Will White had 18 points and 9 assist, and four other Hawk players scored in double digits as Cosumnes River (1-3) beat Los Medanos 78-53. David Straughter had 14 points and 10 rebounds as well in the win for Cosnumnes River. Johny Shelton had 23 points and Justin Claus added 18 as College of the Redwoods (3-2) beat Mendocino 81-70. Chris Ketter had 11 points and 10 rebounds in the loss for Mendocino (2-3). Cosumnes River will meet Redwoods in the consolation game final, Las Positas and Modesto will meet in the 3rd place game, and after tonight, one Northern California team will not be undefeated any longer after 11th ranked Skyline faces top ranked Lassen in the championship game of the tournament.

Shasta Tournament – Redding, CA

In first round action up in the very north of the state, Kamar Reece had 10 points as13th ranked Ohlone beat Cabrillo 61-48. 12th ranked American River (3-0) remained undefeated after beating Siskiyous 64-41. Ephraim Church had 16 points in the loss for Siskiyous (1-6). 3rd ranked Merritt (3-1) beat Shasta 71-64 in first round action. Denzel Bellot had 14 points and 5 rebounds, and Jovontae Carlton added 14 points in the win for the Thunderbirds. In the last game of the night, Diablo Valley (1-2) beat Foothill 62-57 to advance to the semi finals. In the consolation side today, Siskiyous will face Cabrillo, and Foothill will meet Shasta. In the championship side of the bracket, 13th ranked Ohlone will face 12th ranked American River, and 3rd ranked Merrit will face Diablo Valley.

Coalinga, CA – Bakersfield 79 West Hills 69

Freshman Deandre Dickson had 18 points and 9 rebounds and Alex Daniels added 13 as Bakersfield College beat West Hills on the road to win its third consecutive game. Darren Buckles had 13 points and Justin Senou added 10 points for West Hills (2-5)

Compton, CA – El Camino (Compton) 81 Porterville 66

James Boyd had 17 points, 19 rebounds, 5 assist and 6 steals and Chris Townsell added 15 points as El Camino (Compton-Center) beat Porterville 81-66. The Pirates (0-3) were led by Adam Armstead, the sophomore had 16 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.

Pasadena, CA – (2) San Bernadino 73 Pasadena 30

Kyle Benton had 27 points and 11 rebounds, and Paul Evans added 14 points as San Bernadino crushed Pasadena 73-30 on the road Friday night. San Bernadino held Pasadena to 20% shooting from the field and outrebounded Pasadena 46-27. Pasadena (1-5) was led by Donnell Tuff with 7 points and 7 rebounds.

Monterey, CA – (13) Cuesta 70 Monterey 58

Rafael Casanova had 28 points and Benat Hevia added 15 points and 6 assist as Cuesta (4-1) beat Monterey 70-58 on the road for a Friday night victory. Stephen Dorsey had 17 points and 8 rebounds in the loss for Monterey (2-3).

Redwood City, CA – Canada 111 Gavilan 52

Rohndell Goodwin scored 19 points and 7 rebounds, and Deion Ellis added 19 points as 8th ranked Canada (5-1) dominated Gavilan 111-52 on Friday night. The Colts led 55-24 at the half and never looked back. Three other Colts had double figures as well.
