Cougars pick up Intensity Classic championship

Los Angeles Southwest Tournament

In the championship game, D’Lano Beckles had 21 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 assists and Austin Toomalatai added 17 points as Los Angeles Southwest (6-6) overcame a 14 point halftime deficit and picked up a 88-87 win over Orange Coast in the championship game.  Llyod Wright had 34 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists and Joshua Davis added 20 points and 6 rebounds in the loss for Orange Coast (7-6).

In the third place game, D’Caran Anderson had 23 points and Cameron High added 17 points and 8 rebounds as Santa Ana (7-5) took home the 3rd place trophy with a 79-68 win over Rio Hondo (2-10). Jesus Hernardez had 28 points and 4 rebounds and Kenyatta Louder added 11 points and 8 rebounds in the loss for the Roadrunners.

In the consolation final, Glenn Jordan had 18 points and 4 rebounds and Shane Carney added 13 points and 6 assists as Allan Hancock (8-5) overcame a halftime deficit to win 65-62 over Los Angeles Valley (3-9). Dejwan Walker had 18 points and 6 rebounds, and Christian Hodge added 17 points and 11 rebounds in the loss for the Monarchs.

Saddleback Tournament 

In the championship game, Luis Salgado made five three pointers and had 17 points and 4 rebounds, and Robert Taylor added 15 points and 4 rebounds as 2nd ranked San Diego (16-2) got past Canyons 84-76. Frankie Campbell had 16 points and 9 rebounds, and Jacob Lilley added 14 points and 10 assists in the loss for Canyons (6-8).

In the 3rd place game, Josh Wilson-Murry made five three pointers and had 28 points and Jorge Bueno added 15 points as Cuesta (7-8) took home the trophy with a 79-72 over Saddleback (7-8). J.J. Overton had 22 points and Reggie Varner added 15 points and 4 rebounds in the loss for the Gauchos.

In the consolation final, Daniel Chatman made four three pointers and had 20 points and 5 rebounds and Cameron Griffin added 17 points and 11 rebounds as Irvine Valley (10-6) picked up a 87-75 win over Mira Costa (5-9) to bring home the consolation championship. Cole Barton had 12 points and Andrew Thomton added 11 points in the loss for the Spartans.

Sequoias Tournament

In the semi finals, Tommy Nuno had 12 points and 4 rebounds, and Isaiah Flynn added 12 points as 2nd ranked Fresno (10-3) won their 10th game on the season and advanced to the championship game with a 80-69 win over 5th ranked Cerritos (10-3). Johnathan Guzman had 17 points and 6 rebounds, and Jason Carter added 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists in the loss for the Falcons.

In the second semi final of the night, Solomon Taylor had 23 points and Kody Wilson added 12 points and 5 rebounds as 6th ranked Sequoias (9-3) picked up  a 78-73 overtime win over 13th ranked Ventura (10-5). Jacob Alonzo had 27 points and Lamont Sanders added 13 points and 4 rebounds in the loss for the Pirates. Sequoias will next face Fresno tomorrow in the title game, while Ventura will face Cerritos in a match up between two ranked teams from Southern California.

In the first consolation game, Kellen Gerig had 29 points and 7 rebounds, and Hunter Johnson went off for 24 points, 16 rebounds, and 6 assists as Shasta (8-6) overcame a 16 point halftime deficit to beat El Camino 96-82 to advance to the consolation final. Troy Biglow had 15 points and Isiah Armstead added 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists in the loss for El Camino (4-9).

In the second consolation game, Josiah Woods had 25 points and Justin Brown added 13 points as Pasadena (6-6) knocked off 10th ranked Contra Costa 75-65 to advance to the consolation championship against Shasta. Eric Jones had 15 points and 4 assists and Isaiah Attles added 11 points in the loss for Contra Costa (6-5).

San Joaquin Delta Tournament

In the semi finals, Sedale Hanson-Young had 15 points and Terry Clarendon added 13 points as 4th ranked Butte (11-2) picked up a 64-58 win over Sierra to advance to the championship game. Kenny Olsem had 18 points and 7 rebounds, and Tre Finch added 10 points in the loss for Sierra (5-5).

In the second semi final of the night, Eddie Stansberry had 19 points and Terrell Brown added 17 points as top ranked San Francisco (13-1) used a late second half rally to pull away from Cabrillo 73-56 to advance to the championship game tomorrow against Butte. Kobe Ordonio had 13 points and Linton Acliese added 12 points in the loss for Cabrillo (6-6).

In the consolation bracket, Merced (2-9) won their second game of the season with a 82-76 victory over Alameda (2-8)

In other action, Jordan Mellion had 17 points and John Burna added 16 points as San Joaquin Delta (2-5) slipped past Reedley 82-79 in overtime to advance to the consolation championship. Hassan Bolden had 17 points and 7 rebounds and Alfredo Jimenez added 14 points and 7 rebounds in the loss for Reedley (3-8). Delta will face Merced in the consolation championship tomorrow.

Santa Rosa Tournament

In the championship game of the Kris Kringle Invitational, Skylar Chavez had 23 points and Sadik Sufi added 23 points as 12th ranked Santa Rosa (7-4) brought home the tournament championship with a 85-69 win over 13th ranked Feather River (11-5). Gerard Andrus had 19 points and Calvin Fletcher added 12 points in the loss for the Golden Eagles.

In the third place game, Napa Valley (4-7) picked up a 69-67 win over Canada (7-7) to bring home 3rd place.

In the consolation championship, Los Medanos (7-4) brought home the consolation bracket championship with a 96-88 victory over Redwoods (4-9).

West Valley Tournament

In the championship game, Alex Gil-Fernandez scored a game high of 34 points as Foothill (10-5) brought home the championship trophy with a 65-63 win over conference foe Ohlone (8-6). Vinny Safin had 13 points and Cameron Bradley added 12 points in the loss for the Renegades.

In the third place game, Devante Johnson had 34 points and Delvon Nisby added 21 points as West Valley (8-7) moved a game above .500 with a 70-54 win over 3rd ranked Diablo Valley (7-5).

In the consolation final, Hartnell (8-4) beat Solano 65-59 to bring home the consolation title. Trevaughn Moss had 18 points and Leon Williams added 16 points in the loss for Solano (5-6).

Modesto, CA – Columbia 72 (15) Modesto 71

Marquell Hubbard hit a late three pointer and the guard had 17 points and Al Burge added 14 points as Columbia (5-3) edged 15th ranked Modesto (7-5) on the road 72-71. Jaron Dickson had 18 points in the loss for the Pirates.

Palm Desert, CA – (11) Santiago Canyon 87 Desert 77

Rodney Henderson had 30 points and 15 rebounds, and Antoine Jenkins added 28 points as 11th ranked Santiago Canyon (13-3) went on the road and picked up a 87-77 win over Desert (0-9) in non conference action Saturday night. Philippe Salawa had 31 points and 5 rebounds, and Sylvester Franklin added 14 points and 4 assists in the loss.
