Citrus brings home Chaffey Tournament title

Chaffey Tournament

In the championship game of the Chaffey Tournament, Jeremy Smith had 25 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds and Quintin Bailey added 17 points as 3rd ranked Citrus (17-3) overcame a two point halftime deficit and picked up a 77-73 win to bring home the tournament championship over 13th ranked Chaffey (11-7). Tyler Ginyard had 21 points and 7 rebounds and Darrion Willies added 14 points and 9 rebounds in the loss for the Panthers.

In the third place game, Jeremiah Sadler had 25 points and 11 assists and Matthew Wooten added 16 points and 6 rebounds as Long Beach (10-8) edged Palomar 81-79 in overtime. Matt Meyers had 28 points and 12 rebounds and Lavale Coleman-Bell added 16 points and 9 rebounds in the loss for Palomar (10-9)

In the consolation final, Serigne Athj had 18 points and 8 rebounds and Dominic Gully added 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists as Glendale (7-10) used a big second half to get past Compton 78-66 to bring home the consolation championship. L’kielynn Taylor had 16 points and 11 rebounds and Chris Townsell added 15 points in the loss for Compton (3-12).

Cuesta Tournament

In first round action in San Luis Obispo, Roderick Williams had 22 points and Frank Bertz added 11 points as 2nd ranked East Los Angeles (13-3) won their fourth straight win and advanced to the semi finals with a 63-46 win over Allan Hancock (10-7). Glenn Jordan had 16 points and 5 rebounds in the loss for the Bulldogs.

In the second game of the tournament, Davon Sanders had 19 points and A.J. Walton added 13 points as Mt. San Jacinto (7-10) advanced to the semi finals with a 76-68 win over 10th ranked Los Angeles Harbor (10-6). Joel Anderson had 27 points and Henry Johnson added 15 points in the loss for the Seahawks. Mt. San Jacinto will face East Los Angeles tomorrow while Harbor will face Allan Hancock in the consolation bracket.

In other action 5th ranked San Beranrdino (14-4) cruised to the semi finals crushing Santa Barbara 93-41 in first round action. Aaron Mejia had 11 points and was the only Santa Barbara (1-11) player in double figures.

In the night cap, Noah Saunders had 21 points and 4 rebounds, and Josh Wilson-Murry added 14 points and 6 assists as Cuesta (10-9) picked up a 84-57 first round victory over Pasadena (7-7). Ross Lee had 16 points and Justin Brown added 11 points in the loss for the Lancers. Cuesta will face 5th ranked San Bernardino in the semi finals, and Pasadena will face Santa Barbara in the consolation bracket.

Orange Empire Conference

Riverside, CA – (4) Fullerton 61 Riverside 48

Jason Richardson had 17 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 assists and Akil Reese added 12 points and 6 rebounds as 4th ranked Fullerton (13-4, 2-0) stayed unbeaten in conference with a 61-48 road victory over Riverside (10-6, 1-1). Andre Wilson had 11 points and was the only Tiger to score in double figures in the loss for Riverside.

Orange, CA – (9) Santiago Canyon 103 (7) Copper Mountain 96

Rodney Henderson had a big night as the sophomore made 17 of 21 from the line, made five three pointers and had 44 points and 8 rebounds and A.J. Garrity added 20 points as 9th ranked Santiago Canyon (14-4, 1-1) picked up a 103-96 win over 7th ranked Copper Mountain (14-5, 1-1) in a battle of newcomers to the Orange Empire Conference. Jailen Moore made six three pointers and had 18 points and Ronald Bell added 16 points in the loss for the Fightin Cacti.

Costa Mesa, CA – Orange Coast 84 Cypress 82 (2OT)

Joshua Davis had 26 points and 11 rebounds and Kupaa Harrison added 22 points and 12 rebounds as Orange Coast (10-7, 1-1) needed double overtime to knock off Cypress 84-82. Brennon Palmer had 21 points and 10 rebounds and Mike Magee added 14 points and 11 rebounds in the loss to Cypress (6-11, 0-2).

Mission Viejo, CA – Saddleback 63 (14) Irvine Valley 49

J.J. Overton had 24 points and Colin Ferrier added 13 points as unranked Saddleback (9-8, 1-0) opened up Orange Empire Conference with a 63-49 win over 14th ranked Irvine Valley (12-7, 1-1). Daniel Hernandez had 16 points and made four three pointers and was the only Laser in double figures in the loss to the Gauchos.

Coast North Conference

Los Altos, CA – (9) Foothill 81 (4) Las Positas 74

Alex Gil-Fernandez had 16 points and Matt McAndrews added 16 points as 9th ranked Foothill (13-5, 2-0) picked up a 81-74 win over 4th ranked Las Positas (13-5, 1-1). Nick Evans had 18 points and Anand Hundal added 16 points and 10 rebounds in the loss for the Hawks.

Redwood City, CA – Canada 87 (12) Ohlone 80

Keith Dickerson had 17 points and 9 rebounds and Antony Navarrette added 15 points and 11 rebounds as Canada (10-8, 2-0) picked up a 87-80 win over 12th ranked Ohlone (10-9, 0-2).

Hayward, CA – (1) San Francisco 102 Chabot 68

Dexter Hood had 17 points and Eddie Stansberry added 15 points as top ranked San Francisco (17-1, 1-0) won their 13th straight game with a 102-68 victory over Chabot  (2-15, 0-2). Stephen Northington had 23 points and Elliot Harris added 12 points in the loss for the Gladiators.

Coast South Conference

Saratoga, CA – (3) Gavilan 77 (13) West Valley 68

Ibn Zaid had 18 points and Ja-Mont Wilson added 16 points as 3rd ranked Gavilan (15-1, 1-0) won their fifth game in a row with a 77-68 win over 13th ranked West Valley (10-8, 1-1). Devante Johnson had 38 points in the loss for the Vikings.

Cupertino, CA – De Anza 85 Monterey 77

De Anza (7-10, 1-1) picked up a crucial home win against Monterey 85-77 in conference action Friday night. Deshawnte Colllins had 18 points and 6 rebounds and Elijah Nesbit added 13 points and 7 assists in the loss for Monterey (10-8, 1-1).

Aptos, CA – San Jose 68 Cabrillo 64

San Jose (4-11, 1-1) picked up a huge 68-64 win on the road over Cabrillo 68-64 in Coast South Conference action. Kobe Ordonio had 24 points and Tynan Velasquez added 13 points in the loss for Cabrillo (7-9, 0-2).

Non Conference 

Santa Monica, CA – Bakersfield 99 Moorpark 92

Jamar Hammonds had 26 points and Jaylunn English added 22 points as Bakersfield (9-6)picked up a 99-92 win over Moorpark (5-10). Cole Micek had 24 points and Ethan Hermann added 18 points in the loss for the Raiders.

Santa Monica, CA – Los Angeles Trade Tech 72 Santa Monica 70

Maurice West had 27 points and 9 rebounds and Lawrence Carter added 10 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds as Los Angeles Trade Tech (5-9) edged Santa Monica 72-70 in non conference action. Michael Fry had 19 points and 17 rebounds and Joe Robinson added 15 points in the loss for Santa Monica (3-11).

Oroville, CA – (5) Butte 77 Simpson JV 52

Nemanja Kovacevic had 13 points and Eric Boose added 10 points and 10 rebounds as 5th ranked Butte (13-3) cruised to a 77-52 win over the Simpson JV in non conference action.
