San Jose City College Classic Tournament
Teams: Merritt (2-1), Monterey (5-6), (1) San Francisco (9-0), Hartnell (4-5), North Idaho (6-0) , San Jose (0-5)
The San Jose City Classic Tournament begins later today as six teams will be in action for the three day event. Five teams from California headlined by top ranked San Francisco will take part and North Idaho Community College will be in action in the bay for the event that starts today at 2pm.
In the first game of the tournament, Merritt (2-1) will take on Monterey (5-6) at 2pm today. The Thunderbirds will look to pick up their third win of the season in four tries as Merritt has started off the season solid. Merritt picked up a 81-73 win at home against Reedley on Tuesday and the Thunderbirds are looking to pick up their second straight win in the first game of the day. As for the Lobos, Monterey has had an up and down season through the first eleven games of the season. The Lobos have won three of their last four games and finished in second place last weekend at their own tournament. Monterey picked up wins over Cypress and Solano but lost to Gavilan in the championship game.
In the second game of the day, top ranked San Francisco (9-0) will face off against Hartnell (4-5) at 4pm. The Rams are fresh off a victory on the road last night against 2nd ranked Santa Rosa and San Francisco has started off the season winning nine straight games and showing why they are the top ranked team in our Signal The Light Basketball Northern California rankings. The Rams have five wins over Signal The Light Basketball ranked teams and will look for their tenth straight win over Hartnell. The Panthers will look to pick up an upset over San Francisco as Hartnell has lost their last two games. After losing in the first round at the Monterey Tournament, Hartnell beat Alameda before losing the Cypress in the consolation championship game.
In the final game of the day, North Idaho (6-0) will take on San Jose (0-5) at 6pm. North Idaho comes into the game undefeated and will look to keep the Jaguars winless this season. North Idaho has picked up wins against Central and Western Wyoming and have been solid to start the season. Meanwhile, San Jose will look to upset North Idaho and pick up their first win of the season after losing their first five games to start the season. San Jose has struggled this season and have only held one opponent under 80 points this season.
